do you buy your hummus or make it?

>> No.15638936

homemade hummus is so much better and extremely easy to make in a food processor. only downside is it lasts a week tops.

What do you like to put in it? Gf uses garbanzo beans, Tahiti sauce, garlic, blend til creamy, season w olive oil and paprika. Simple and timeless

chickpeas, tahini, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, some water, and whatever spices you like is always the base. i love adding roast sweet potatoes, cumin and sumac. topping with basil. so good. store bought hummus is a meme.

just to to your local middle eastern grocery store and buy the freshly made stuff. it's 1/4th the price and made daily. you can even custom order specific flavors and they will make it on the spot for less money than sabra premade garbage

I absolutely despise the smell you get when you cook chickpeas for hours. It makes me retch.
I buy hummus

>> No.15640964

yes but i fucking hate getting all the skin off

>> No.15640973

If you eat it more than once or twice a month its definitely worth it to make your own. Dried chickpeas are dirt cheap, especially if you buy in bulk at indian/arab shops.

>> No.15640987

I used to buy it but if you have a food processor and a pressure cooker you can make it perfect so easily and so fast. Only downside is having to let it cool overnight in the fridge.

but buying it is bullshit since it can cost upwards of 6+ for a pittance of hummus. But if you spend maybe 10 or 15 bucks buying all the ingredients (excluding spices prices since you more than likely already have an entire pantry full) to make hummus at home you can get like quadruple the volume. Infact I want to make some now, maybe ill go buy all the stuff today.

I don't care for hummus but I love "Steve's Mediterranean Chef" garlic toom, which can be bought at Meijers and tastes exactly like the stuff served in Arab restaurants.

it's pretty damn nice. unique texture and not too much of a strong flavor at all if you're a sauce kind of guy.
good flexibility from chips to actual dishes and sandwiches. even with pizza it's pretty damn nice if you're running low on other sauces.
you should give it a try today. doesn't have to be name brand either, since it can get pretty fucking expensive for just beans and a little oil.

>> No.15643065 [DELETED]

I'd never by anything from that ZOG owned company. I just make it myself, it's easy and way tastier.

P.s. protip: put your canned garbanzo beans in a pot of cold water and move your hands through them, brushing/rubbing them together gently. All of the cellulose skins fall off and float to the top. Remove all skins and use for compost, your hummus will be so much more smooth and creamy. Also buy a jar/tub of lebanese tahini from amazon (red lid), it's way cheaper than the stores and tastes great!

I just the standard shit. 2 cans of garbanzo beans, quarter cup or more of tahini, maybe a quarter cup of olive oil, 4-5 garlic cloves I make into a paste, one juiced lemon, and salt and a little bit of paprika. Measurements are eyeballed. Also I add two ice cubes when it's blending in the food processor.

>> No.15643672

i usually make it myself but we occasionally buy a big bucket of it to have on hand

1 can(skins removed if you want it extra creamy)
80g+ of tahini
30g lemon juice
60g olive oil
2 garlic cloves
smoky paprika, a pinch of cumin
if i need to loosen it up i add some of the aquafaba, and i rarely need to add extra salt since its made with canned

Premade isn't that bad. There's one with pine nuts as a topping and it's pretty alright. The one topped with za'atar is good too.
I just hate the smell of cooking hummus. Even in hummus restaurants I don't stay inside for long, because when I get a whiff of that I lose all my appetite.
