guys Ive been eating two cans of tuna everyother day now im afraid I overexposed my body to mercury because I didnt know before hand how much a can of tuna has. Are there ways to detox the metal from my body?

I've heard that sticking your hand into a pool like that feels like having your hand "inside" metal. I realize that's literally what it is but I think you get what I mean

2 cans every other day isn’t that much. If you’re worried you’re filled with mercury, go to the doctor and get your blood tested to see how much mercury is in it. If it’s extremely high, chelation therapy may be an option. Chelation therapy can have serious side effects, so it’s not a diy project or something used for slightly elevated mercury levels. I’d be shocked if someone ate so much tuna that a doctor recommended it.

Some canned fish like salmon, herring, and sardines are much lower in mercury. Start eating those more.

Sodium EDTA in processed mayonnaise is a chelating agent. I make sure to eat tuna with mayo.

Also generally the lower on the food chain you go, the less mercury. I used to live in rural California and they still warned us to eat 2-3 wild trout max per week as an adult male

Chelation, look it up. If you're that worried, go to a doctor to run some tests.

Metallic mercury isn't that bad, even if you eat it thanks to its weight and other properties very very little gets into your system, most just comes out the other side.

Organic mercury, on the other hand, kills you dead if you even look at it.

it's a meme, and a comically bad one at that. the selenium amount in it more than negates It and there isn't a single recorded american case of toxicity from normal food consumption, and the amount of mercury in tuna is well below the fda recommended safety level, which though I don't know in this specific case, is usually ultraconsertivally low to begin with

Hi fourchannel cooking,

I am the mother of our beloved Ralphie. I’m so sorry to have to tell your internet forum that Ralphie passed away, very loved by all of us, Thursday, February 18, early in the morning or late in the night as they say.

The cause of death was Mercury poisoning. He ate too much. Nothing could save him. To our family it was Chernobyl all over again as he writhed in agony just just like Uncle Alexy did after absorbing 30 fatal radiation doses.

My son asked if /ck/ would raise a McChicken to his memory. Please grant his last wish, /ck/.

What kind of canned tuna?

Albacore? Yellowfin? Chunk light? They have different mercury levels

It’s been said before, but chelating agents are what you need. I’m not gonna be a faggot though, so here’s a quick rundown:
>mustards: mustard, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, etc
>onions: onions, leeks, spring onions, shallots, garlic, all other alliums
>EDTA: chemical found in many products for preservative reasons (it maintains pH)
>cilantro: unnaturally high in chelating agents compared to other plants unrelated to mustard/onions
These are your friends. They are remarkably easy to get into your system, and so long as you regularly eat these foods (as well as drink a lot of water, exercise regularly, aren’t eating tuna all day every day) you will be just fine lad.

If you’re curious, chelating agents work because they’re really big molecules, they have a structure that allows them to bind to certain atoms from multiple branches (sort of like wrapping your arms and legs around something), and once they’re bonded with said atom the atom and the molecule are totally water soluble. Mercury, in general, is not water soluble - so the trick to getting it out of ones body is to ingest enough chelating agents to bond with the mercury so you can literally piss it right out.

Living west of the Mississippi is consigning yourself to live in the Mojave desert, unless you move near the Canada border or Northern California (plus the coastal states above it). The Great Plains are just an extension of the Mojave desert that happens to be cool enough to grow weeds sometimes. The evidence of this is the lack of diversity in plants and animals in these regions, which is (as your graph shows for literally just fucking fish, one of the most diverse fields of animals) remarkably lower.
