In Europe we keep eggs at room temperature. They last a month.
This is because we don't wash off the protective coating of the egg

> but what if the shell is dirty WAAAAAAAH t. LE 56% FACE

You don't eat the shell

>> No.15606475

Huh... I have unwashed eggs. But when I get a dozen I put them in the fridge. I wash them before I use them because they are kind of gross but I understand the bloom protects the egg but if you're going to crack it within a couple hours at the most then yeah.

Oh yea and I am an Amerifat. I think it's fucked up that it's illegal to sell unwashed eggs. But I hate store bought eggs anyways, they taste like watery anemic shit.

What I really wanna know is why is it legal to sell raw meat and raw eggs but you can't sell raw milk?

Just spend an extra few dollars and get the good organic ones. If you eat 2 or 3 at a time the increased cost is minimal compared to the increased quality

In the 90s my parents had this amazing brown ceramic hen. You lifted off the top part and inside the bottom was where they kept eggs. They also had a butter dish that was kept on the work top and a wooden bread bin as well.

I miss those days.

I refrigerate my eggs and I'm European.
I haven't met anyone who didn't put their eggs in the fridge. Maybe it's a rural thing.

What an odd thing to complain about. Is keeping food in the fridge difficult for Euros? It seems like such a non-issue that if it saves you even a quick wash when you use an egg, it already kinda evens out.
Is it like butter where you want it warmer so can crack an egg on your toast or some shit? I don't get it

>just buy store bought eggs that have the bullshit organic certification.

No.
I have 12 laying ducks and my neighbor has free range chickens, she sells me a dozen for 2 bucks and her eggs taste better than the 7 dollar pasture raised vital farms eggs I used to be cucked into buying at the supermarket.
I don't even get those anymore because A: It's winter, she's a small operation, her hens production drops in winter. Understandable.

B: I HAVE DUCKS. They give me eggs, every day, for free. I got 4 eggs today, I will probably get 4 tomorrow (production is low due to winter and my ducks are still young, when the weather warms up I am expecting to get between 6-12 eggs a day). I have 6 dozen eggs in my fridge, and that's even with giving family a half dozen here and there as gifts.

Also organic doesn't make a difference in egg quality. They are still confinement birds who don't get enough vitamin D or forage. The only difference is they have organic feed and aren't on antibiotics. Neither of these things make any difference in the animals welfare or the taste of their eggs.
Why settle for less when I have the best?

How much do you pay for duck feed every month? I'm sure you're easily breaking even vs. buying organic eggs, but I'm curious.

8 dollars a month on feed. Less in the summer when I give them bugs and garden greens. Once I start selling all I need to do is sell maybe 2 dozen to cancel out the feed costs.

Sure, its not free-free. But considering at their peak I can get a dozen in less than 2 days I mean... It works itself out.

No, the reason for this, as retard OP described, aka you, is the washing. You are trying to ask about the purpose of WASHING the eggs, which is admittedly indefensible.

Because washed eggs have to be kept in the fridge (US) and unwashed don't, but they have to be more sanitary to begin with (EU). Both ways, if properly followed, are perfectly valid to prevent foodborne illnesses regarding eggs.

If unwashed eggs are put in a fridge, there's no turning back: they have to stay there, tho.

I can recall this aussie chef declaring that eggs kept in the fridge door holders were negatively affected by the warm air every time the door opened. So he keeps them in the back... but it's total codswallop.

He was right about garlic crushers though, fuck slicing sticky garlic.
