Yeah I've always wondered this, I can't imagine there's any point to grinding salt before use? With pepper it's obviously for freshness. Maybe pre-ground salt gets less abrasive if it's humid or something?

I read some amazon shit, apparently there are different sized settings, like coarse/medium/fine or whatever. Pretty sure there are manual ones like that, or most likely it's just for aesthetic reasons to match your pepper grinder.
