Wild Atlantic salmon comes from literally the other side of the world. All you can get in here (Aus) is Tasmanian farmed salmon, and I've seen it for as low as $26/kg frozen and the fish couldn't be more than 25cm long.
If you want cheap fish, and you can get it, stick to something native. The bongs would kill for our King George Whiting, mulloway, or gummy shark for use in fish and chips.
That said, I don't think we have a good native sushi option besides tuna, which I don't like.
