In Japan if you say something is good, it’s assumed you actually mean it’s good. if you say it’s great, you actually mean it’s great.

There is a small hole of an izakaya in Osaka I dearly love. No matter where else I travel there, this place feels like “my” spot.
Last time I was there, I had my fiancée translate for me (she’s native Osakan so perfect Osaka-Ben) and tell them I’ve gone to many restaurants in Osaka, Hiroshima, Tokyo, etc.. and that their place is truly my favorite, and I couldn’t wait to come back.
Taisho closed his eyes and nodded, clearly trying to hide emotion; afterward he gave me his business card and prepared some extra food for us to take home. His wife who does most of the serving started wiping tears like they had just been given a Michelin star.
Compliments go a long way, especially if seen as genuine.
