Is it okay to cook ground beef if the sell by date is Jun 08 2018? Was kinda gray and brown when taking it out of the freezer

Yeah but it probably won't taste very good having been in there that long unless it was vac-sealed.

I'm currently alive, yeah. I thought I felt a little funny half an hour ago but I think I was just imagining it as it went away and I'm not feeling nausea. That doesn't mean I'm not scared though, I got too spooked while eating it and proceeded to throw it out.
>>15552460
I added a lot of seasoning to it so whatever quality it has was overmasked by the as seasoning
However, it was drier than freshly brought beef though I would say
>>15552193
>>15552248
I got the ground beef from my parents house, that was always kept in a freezer at constant temperatures, to which it went into my freezer. The only problem is that during that time period, my freezer was less cool than usual (for about a week) but I'm not sure the exact temperature drop. It was still cool and kept everything relatively frozen though. Not sure if that's enough to allow bacteria to grow within the beef or something.

>>15550988
As long as it stayed frozen the entire time and you cook it thoroughly, you'll be fine. It won't taste as good, but it won't kill you. Of course, if it smells bad, you shouldn't eat it. But brown/gray ground beef is fine and normal, it's actually how it looks before they make it red to make it "look better." The red wears off with enough time, but that alone means nothing. It's the smell that's important.

>>15550988
Perfectky fine. Even if it would have been spoiled you would only need to heat it up real ho and long for everything to die off (outside of botolinum, but than again, that would have bn the wrong conditions for it).

It will taste shitty but will be fine otehrwise.

>> No.15552609

>>15552583
They don't "make" it red. That's just oxydation. Once exposed to air fresh meat becomes red. Raw freshly harvested meat also isn't red in the body.

>> No.15552639

>>15552609
They actually do make it red because they choose when (and how) to package it. If you package it right away, it winds up more purple than red. They wait until it turns red, and then package it to keep it redder longer. They also try to control how much light it gets in order to keep it redder longer. And this all comes down to marketing, because people think red ground beef is fresh when that's not at all how it works.

>> No.15552682

>>15552639
That's not "making it red". That's keeping it best looking for the longest time. You wouldn't seel your car before giving it a proper cleaning either.

>> No.15552695

bunch of pussies itt lmao

>> No.15552789

>>15552682
That's "making it red" because they're doing things specifically so it'll be red and not purple or brown or "rainbow" colored. But now we're in a semantics argument because you refuse to just admit you were wrong about this, and you thought I didn't know what I was talking about when it turns out I know a whole lot more than you.

>> No.15552858

>>15552789
I'm not wrong. You're just salty that your missrepresentation isn't sticking. "To make something" implies actually doing something, not just waiting till packaging. You know shit, my retard, I butchered my own pigs and regularly make my own ground meat. There are eought other things to be angry at the food industry. Packing ground isn't one of them.

>"To make something" implies actually doing something
They are doing things. They purposely keep it away from light and package it at the exact right time. Those are activities. Packaging it alone is doing something. If left alone, that meat wouldn't be red by the time it hit the shelves. Hell, it wouldn't be red by the time they put it on the trucks.
Now you're lying and larping as a butcher, and talking about "being angry at the food industry" when I never expressed any anger at the food industry, no one in this thread has. This is just pathetic, anon. Take your L and walk away.

Might be a shocker, but I don't own a smartphone nor a camera and I'm not taking my shitty hp out to the freezer or barn when we're snowed in. I also never said, that I am a professional butcher. I kill and butcher my own animals for self sufficiency. Pro tip: Hammers are great stunt guns and hanging a chicken by it's legs for a couple minutes makes it comatous, which is easier on the animal and the mess.

Again, I can't imagine in what a shithole you must live to think that's ridiculously unlikely. But be my guest, fren.

There is nothing wrong with cleaning out your freezer. Once you defrost it cook a little in the microwave or a skillet then smell and taste it. It won't taste fresh but unless it got severely freezer burned it will taste fine in casseroles or other meals that are heavily seasoned.
