When I was a kid my mom did almost all of the grocery shopping at Aldi so we had their brand of everything, and most of it was clearly inferior to the name brand or even other store brand versions, like the Spaghettio knockoffs where the meatballs were made of fish

Don't really care if others had it better, more power to you, but it doesn't seem that poorfag to regularly get soda or snack crackers.

For the first ~10 years of my life soda was reserved for holidays if one of the parents could be assed to get it, and the snacks outside of meals was verboten unless something was going bad. Most meals, 2-3 per day, were rice + beans or veggies, usually with some meats on a weekend night, or on the weekdays if we managed to snag a rabbit or something. We also often did the cooking from a pretty young age.
Though we probably could've afforded at least some stuff like OP if the parents weren't incorrigible alcoholics.
