funny how a diy board has more cooking than the cooking board.

Off-style but I'm sure it tastes fine.

>>15523785
It's only as complicated as you want to make it. If you want to mash you can, but you can also make good beer with extract. Hell you can make pretty decent cider with storebought jugs of juice.

1) buy milled malt, dried hops and dried yeast from a store
2) add malt to hot water, wait to make sugar water aka wort
3) boil wort, add hops
4) cool wort, add yeast
5) wait
6) bottle
7) wait
8) enjoy your homebrew

you can get drunk easier and cheaper if you just buy cheap booze

if yuo live in a shithole with big alcohol taxes, homebrewing is the way to go

>is it more cost effective long term than buying booze at the store?
It's not cheaper than buying Coors lite ($0.069/oz), if that's what you mean. But if you're someone who buys a lot of craft or micro it can be way cheaper depending on how crazy you want to go with hops.

Assuming $40 for ingredients and yeast you're making 4.5 gallons of beer after separating trub/waste you're brewing beer at $0.069/oz vs. $0.138/oz for a six pack of beer ($9.99). If you're autistic enough to reuse yeast you can get the cost per batch lower.

If you drink cider it's way, way cheaper depending on whether you think a product made with store-bought juice is acceptable.

They moved to /diy/ because /ck/ is the mcchickens and frogposting board now. The slower pace and reduced shitposting of /diy/ suit the long term process of homebrewing better.

>> No.15525134

>>15524771
The threat of botulism from kefir or kombucha is essentially nonexistent unless the milk or water already contains botulinum toxin. Clostridium Botulinum only thrives in anaerobic conditions; kombucha and kefir are both open air fermentations. The only danger from milk kefir is if it takes too long to ferment (like using too much milk for the grains to handle) and getting a salmonella infection or the milk going sour. Neither have ever happened to me. However, if you obtain grains from a reputable source (I bought from yemoos) they give you instructions for acclimating the new grains that make it basically idiot proof.

For kombucha the worst that can happen is mold, and that visually obvious.
