When I was about 22 I ate a pear, something I had done all my life and I got an intense allergic reaction where my throat and mouth itched and burned for about 15 minutes. Ever since then I get the same reaction to varying degrees from different fruits that never affected me at all, unfortunately including peaches. I never figured out why or how something like that could happen.
