How about a /drinks/ general?

A few questions:

Whiskey or Whisky?
Bourbon or Rye?
Best beer by country?
White or brown spirits?
Favorite region for wine?
Favorite cocktail?
Favorite style of beer?

>I personally love Irish Whiskey, especially single pot still because of the mouth feel and flavor, second only to peaty scotch.
>My favorite beer is Kolsch.
>I love negronis based on Sloe Gin
>I love Italian wines, second to Australian

I struggle with Rheinhessen wines - very sweet and I don't find them as deep in flavor as the Italian or Australian.

Good choice on cocktail.

OP I'll be honest with you I started to answer all those questions then by the last one realized how much of a waste of time it was.

Instead I'll tell you that I drank 7 beers and a rum and Diet Pepsi while watching Disney movies all through the night. The unimportant thing is that the beers were Miller Genuine Draft and Moosehead and the rum was Bacardi. The important thing is that I had a fun time and that The Emperors New Groove and The Incredibles are both really good movies and still hold up today!

anyone remember the guy who waited a year to open his whisky? That's me

You guys were right, Talisker is not-great at best.

It's more *interesting* than blends, but not in a good way. It's spicy and otherwise without flavor. I've heard people describe seaweed and brine and I think that's legit all marketing. Old pulteney actually has some saltiness but talisker not so much.

I mean it's not as awful as the anti-talisker shill says, but it's definitely not worth the price.

How smokey, if at all, are you looking for it to be? Laphroiag 10 and Lagavulin 16 are the obvious choices. Ardbeg 10 is pretty good but very rich and there's more than brine.
Talisker is a good middle of the road option, you'll get all those briney notes but it is mildly smokey. Talisker 10 is a classic and easily my favorite scotch. Talisker Storm is really good too for a budget no age statement scotch. Not that far off from the 10 year.
If you want something that isn't going to be smokey I highly recommend Bruichladdich Classic Laddie. It comes in a sky blue opaque bottle that doesn't look at all what good scotch should come in but man is it good. Really aggressive and young, bottled at 100 proof, but it has the richest seaside notes I've had. Bunnahabhain 12 will get you there too.
If you're not against a blend Smokey Joe is super good, you really wouldn't expect it to be but it's a blended malt and hits all those briney, smokey notes you want out of a good Islay.

He starts hyping the stuff for a solid minute. As soon as he leaves I look up reviews and it turns out it's their Spirits Direct shit.
Nice try, I walked out with the Casa Noble. The El Padrino might not even be bad, but fuck off with the shameless shilling. That just undermines any faith a customer can have in your staff to give honest recommendations.
