I tried Imo's as a Chicagoan guest of a suburbanite with family/property down there.
We got plenty of toppings. I'll say, the cracker-crust is easily the best part of the concept, granted I've eaten a lot of Jack's frozen pizzas in my life. The fully-loaded toppings probably helped a lot. It wasn't wholly-repulsive, but my first impressions, word-for-word, were that it was fine enough to eat, but that if I were to teach my children that "This is what pizza is", it would be, these words, "A Sin". I grew up on Aurelio's, for reference.

Listen, I'm VERY sympathetic to the idea that an over-the-top-and-thus-out-of-balance foodstuff is not any better for its overindulgence. Deep dish isn't really tht offbalance, but it is meant to be consumed in different quantities.
My problem with detroit-style is that it's too breast, though. It's still good and all, but, too often it's got an imbalanced ratio of puffy-bready-crust to thin layer of sauce and cheese and toppings.
