I'm just getting into cheese and I don't get brie. Smells slightly rotten, but tastes of almost nothing at all. Has no salt. I tried heating it up in the oven in some foil since I heard it's good hot, but it didn't melt per se, it just 'split' and the grease came out.

>> No.15420245

>>15420087
Most Americans have zero perception of where their food comes from or what it actually is. That’s why so many children are shocked to learn that meat is animals and the vegetarian/vegan groups take advantage and use emotions to convince them it’s bad to eat animals (when, if done correctly, farming isn’t really a bad thing - it’s just factory farming that’s problematic for a myriad of reasons).
It’s also why so many turn up their noses at blue cheese, because it’s “literally mold”. I’m saying all this as an American myself. It really all depends on the region as the US is a big place, but most suburban/urban places have no real connection to where their food comes from whatsoever.

>> No.15423777

.industrial brie is based, cost as low as 1 eur per 200 grams, is sold as cheap ass 1kg wheel sometimes. just stay away from any "Président" brie, camembert or coulommiers. (well they're prolly a bit better at brie, the rest is absolute garbage)
It tastes like butter and for added degeneracy you can eat it with butter as well. That's a filler neutral cheese to stuff yourself with and eat too much of in one sitting.

another thing to do is to eat an entire camembert without even bread, with just the knife. it feels improper.
not everything has to be fine and distinguished.
