Far be it from me to defend Walmart, but I think a love of the dystopian vibes in these two photos at least mostly come from local managers being absolutely incompetent and retarded.
I think most people on this board could have made that table look nicer without having to offer more products and the bananas could at least have been taken out of the damn boxes. The sign on them could be worded much better as well. Something like "Have a banana to keep up your energy!" or whatever.
It looks sterile because it was set up by the kind of uncreative retards who make Walmart their career.

I would take the juice since you can't sneak into the bathroom and add vodka to a cupcake.

What makes me laugh about these "have a banana wageslave" photos is that one banana costs the company less than a cent in bulk. That's why these managers are doing this, because it's the absolute cheapest possible way to, hypothetically, say thank you.

I'll be honest fellas, when I go to on my weekly grocery run I sometimes honestly wonder how lifelong retail employees don't kill themselves. Because I used to work at a grocery store when I was a teenager and I remember each day being fucking suffering, just promising myself that someday when I was grown up I would have a better job and would never have to do this again. But the mid-forties men and women who work behind a cash register or at a service desk every day, for years on end... how do they do it?

the best part is the sign is obviously photoshopped on but you dumbfucks took the bait because you're so desperate to dunk on managers who are trying to do something for their workers while keeping the assholes above them happy.

most of them are retired and just need something to do, at least the really old ones are. the younger-but-still-old ones are probably doing it on the side or fucked up at an age where it's too late to start their career, but already had kids at that point so had to keep going.

Those don't appear to be the usual bananas, so... maybe.
It is plausible that this pallet was misdelivered (and "free" to the store), as the produce truck likely has several stops.
Your math does not seem to account for DC or CAP labor, nor DC to store transport cost.
Still cheaper to the company to give bananas to the associates than to rent a UHAUL and have a manager drop them off at the food bank so the associates can pick up free bananas at the pantry next Wednesday.

Probably shopped, but since most restaurants still aren't open, lots of product like this is either given away or donated due to it sitting in the warehouse for too long. I work at a uni and before break the food hall handed out the rest of their fruit produce just so it wouldn't go to waste. Staff students etc were told to take as much as they wanted.

My main job is a spring-summer seasonal one so I usually find a quick temp retail job in the winter, and Walmart is the worst shit ever, if anyone needs a retail job do target instead. they actually make a point to be all progressive and easygoing as employers, 15/hr too. Its still soul sucking menial bullshit but better than op
