So, a new whirlpool, white in color, made in the USA, was delivered about a week ago. it's so quiet that you cannot hear it running outside of the kitchen area. It does a much better job than our old one too.

cornbread in dutch ovens, or like a chicken pot pie. you make a thick chicken stew in the bottom and put over it either a whole rolled-out piece of biscuit dough, or you arrange the biscuits to form a layer over the top, then bake it all.
As for enamel, "worth it" for the 60-dollar Lodge enamel sets? Sure. "Worth it" for the luxury brands? Honestly it's a good enough product, over years I'm sure you could feel you got your money's worth out of it. Makes for a nice gift if money's no object. But a 300 dollar pan to cook in, I don't know, I'd feel a little bit like my-pan-owns-me instead of the other way around. Might feel a little too precious about it, mine cost 30 bucks. It's a great thing to have though, definitely not a meme.
Basically they can do anything non-enameled cast iron does, but you don't have to worry about acidic ingredients on the seasoning layer. If you use it regularly enough to get a good patina going you don't have too much to worry about, but like. The last thing I made in mine was a baked rigatoni, and it involved frying italian sausage in the bottom, then pouring over a jar of red sauce+water and simmering for an hour. That's something I probably wouldn't have done in a non-enameled piece. If you've been using yours regularly enough to get a good patina going, cooking with mildly acidic ingredients for a brief amount of time doesn't need to be a boogeyman, but yeah like simmering tomato sauces I might hesitate.

In truth, there isn't that much you CAN'T do with a dutch oven.

>desperate sadness of a galley kitchen
but galley kitchens are incredibly functional. everything is within reach and quickly accessible. i know people like to use kitchens as de facto gathering places within the home these days but that’s a very modern concept. i’ve had galley kitchens and i’ve had big open kitchens and from a cooking perspective i much preferred the galley.

I have nightmares about the galley kitchen. Not enough counter space. Especially if you're training little sous chefs. You must be a solitary soul. I hate the claustrophobic feel! I need room to express myself. I need room to have a person to order around. I need room for my giant Bluetooth speaker. I need room to roll out the dough. I wanna spread my arms wide and sing The Sound of Music while spinning around in my kitchen.

but thats just me. anyway, your lights are cool AF. I still don't have any under cabinet lighting. shit sucks.

The counter space can be an issue. I’m contemplating having some of the drawers under the microwave taken out so I can have a drawer style microwave installed. That would make a huge difference in available counter space for me although there is more work space than the colored photo shows.

>> No.15293914

Thats really not bad for a galley. I absolutely would not waste the space for a microwave. but I can live without one. my kitchen is large, but still lacking in counter space. it has the room for an island, which I have been talking about buying for 5 years and haven't yet. I need to realize my final form.

Sure, but we are where we are. Cookware and plates coated in toxic shit, hot food stored in plastics that release xenoestrogens, etc etc. I want complete control in what goes into my food and the only way is buying high quality anything that touches food with toxicity certifications and storing food in boride glass containers. Also, I don't buy processed garbage and get almost all of my produce locally. Luckily I live in a country where this is actually cheaper than store bought garbage. I get local kefir cheaper than milk in stores and locally made bio honey for 8€ a liter, which is literally cheaper than garbage honey from Peru in stores.
Besides, after 2 years of everyday cooking I've gotten better at it than any local restaurants anyway.

America's test kitchen actually rated the blenders on how well they could make mayonnaise like that's what people want out of a blender or should even use a blender for. Blendtec is half the cost, has a stronger motor, feels sturdier, and blends the fuck out of things. Haven't had a problem yet, but I just got it. You can buy a tamper for the blendtec but it won't be from the company. Has to be third party. I love it.
