Childhood is never putting any salt or pepper on your food.

Adulthood is putting it on literally everything.

I grew up in a house that litchrally didn't have salt. I had no idea the pure magic of salting food until I was an adult. And ho-lee-fuk. Especially because I'm a heavy drinker (I blame my sodium-deprived upbringing and associated PTSD for this), and overly salted soup or pasta is truly the cure in the morning

I had a salt and peppered leftover turkey sandwich, cured my hangover in like a minute

I salt my cream of wheat/semolina now and it's an entirely different food and actually has the power to start your day properly. I never knew when I was a kid and mushing down that bitter bullshit. Fuck my parents for not allowing salt

when you drink you piss out all your minerals and electrolytes, primarily sodium. that's why it's so hard to get back on your feet in the morning, water doesn't sit well and it's nearly impossible to re-hydrate because you can't absorb water without sufficient salt in your body. once you get your salts replenished liquids go right down and and get right into your blood where they belong.

this is why athletes sweating in training all day need to take salt tablets (typically sodium and potassium, sometimes with calcium and magnesium), so they can actually retain the water they drink. when you're depleted of electrolytes you can force feed yourself water but you end up pissing clear piss and you're still not hydrating

Adulthood is learning to cook properly so you don't have to dump salt on everything after the fact

Can confirm, the little bit of salt makes all the difference. They probably just never had it made that way either. If you like the 'wheat you should check out upma, it's like a whole meal featuring cream of wheat, so good.

wow, never knew that. I generally make a fruit smoothie and nurse it all day trying to work up an appetite

Bro.
What kind of childhood was that?
