I'm not a usual here, most of the time I lurk /lgbt/. I come here only occasionally when I ask for advices(which are usually shit) but I thought I'd humor myself with what this thread has to offer at all.

Cheddar, Gorgonzola, Roquefort, Gruyere, Gouda. I think it works best with semi-soft cheeses.

dried gorgonzola might not be a mac and cheese type, but might see some good use.

I guess I'll go with cheddar and gouda. Thanks for the idea

Yet as is typical for your misbegotten kind, you simply can't help but talk about it.

I'll humor you.
You can dehydrate psilocybin mushrooms If they grow near you.
You can dehydrate any other mushrooms to use them in stock.
Dehydrate concentrated broth to make something akin to colonial American portable soup.
Dehydrate herbs for herbal tea.
If you live near the coast, dehydrate seaweed.
Dehydrate the weed tar in your bong downstem to make a smokable but unpleasant concentrate.
Dehydrate chrysanthemum flowers to make tea.
Dehydrate dandelion roots then powder them to make a flower alternative.
I could go on, a dehydrator is your friend if you understand what flora is edible.
Just stick to dehydrating meat though, it's one of the better uses.

Thanks, pretty neat Ideas.
I stick to using THC concentrate sap for edibles, I don't do much of smoking or other types of drugs, but cool to know.

I did think about drying herbs, maybe growing them and drying them might be a cool idea.
I dorm in Detroit Downtown so I won't be able to get seaweed, I might if I move near a coast post graduation.

and mushrooms sound nice to dry. Good to make umami rich broth out of in general, might be able to use in creative ways.

Detroit. My condolences my mentally ill friend.
if you live downtown in a city, your options will be limited to what you can purchase from a store.
Your best option might be purchasing herbs to dehydrate for tea or growing them yourself in a small herb garden on the balcony or window.
I suggest starting with mint, sage, and thyme.
They all grow very easily, especially mint.
You will have plenty of leaves to dehydrate and make delicious mint tea.
The traditional way of making mushroom broth with dehydrated mushrooms is probably best but once they're dry, you can put them in a food processor and turn them into a powder and then make a fast broth with a French press. If you're going to go that far, you may as well dehydrate some peppers and other vegetables to make your French press broth powder.
Or, you know, just buy the broth.
I'm serious, sticking to meet is probably a good idea because beef jerky is expensive as heck.
All the things you can make with a dehydrator with vegetables are usually cheaper just to buy.
Maybe it'll be worth dehydrating fruit.
Dehydrators really are an item more suited to country folk I regret to inform you.

Seriously though, obviously fruit should be on your list as well. If you go camping a lot, it's helpful for making instant meals.

I've also used it to dehydrate excess seafood to make XO sauce in the past, especially if my local seafood market has cheap deals on "scraps" like scallop abductors, small shrimp, etc. It's also useful for refreshing stale crispy things e.g. French's onions, nori sheets for sushi, etc..

YMMV with your dehydrator as I've have had very mixed success on those circular types. My favorite brand is Excalibur - pricey as fuck, but they actually heat evenly for the most part, unlike the type you listed. This can be circumvented by rotating trays, but it can be a PITA, especially if your food rots before it achieves proper dehydration.

I presumed so, it seems like an ideal device for farmers that get a buttload of fruit that ripen at once. But I like making stuff from scratch, always been a DIY kind of person myself. I've made shit myself where most people my age don't even think its possible or easy to make on your own, like Kimchi, Sake(unfiltered so technically Doburoku), Hard apple cider, Gingerbeer, bunch of other stuff. This whole dehydrating stuff was sort of a way for me to dabble in another DIY cooking experiment of mine, to see what I can do with what I have at hand.
I don't feel like I'm mentally ill but I appreciate your kindness anon.

>>15292787
I never even thought of Seafood, very interesting idea.. I've seen like dried krill, squid, and other stuff, might be neat to make something of my own too. And refreshing stale food does sound useful, I didn't even know about it. I was going to get something nicer and bigger, but my budget didn't extend much and I won't have huge spaces to keep big things in my dorms, so something on the smaller side was more convinient for me. Might get something bigger and better like the Excalibur in a few years If I decide to use it more seriously and often. I appreciate the feedback on the device though.

I'm glad I got actually useful insight from this thread, I thought I'd get nothing going into here. Maybe /ck/ isn't a bunch of McDonald loving tastelets. Thanks Everyone, and good night.

I also like to make things from scratch for the heck of it, it's fun, were kindred spirits there.
I've never done it but I bet you could dehydrate miso, tofu squares, and throw some unsalted seaweed In at the end to make some pretty awesome homemade instant miso soup.
I'm going to bed now, I hope some of my suggestions tonight helped you with your dehydrator writer's block.
Cheers
Or I mean dilate
Whatever

I won't be Dilating anon, Vaginas are gross. Not getting one ever.

As a Japanese I can appreciate and will definitely use that Portable Miso Soup base idea, Instant Miso soup packets sold in Japan are basically that with preservatives in raw, dashi infused miso.
I just wrote out a whole list of the new recommendations and Ideas on my sketchbook/notebook, looking forward to making all of these.
Thanks again for coming by, and have a happy end of the year anon.

Good night, and Cheers indeed.

I didn't have childhood trauma, not sexually anyways. I just am willing and open enough to love any human romantically, not just a certain type based on race or gender but rather by their character and preferences. Not really a Homosexual, but Pansexual to be exact.

Also I didn't vote for Biden, but not for Trump either.

Lastly believing in the Biden pedo meme is kind of retarded, never took memes seriously as a political argument to something.

Dried bananas/plantains are good and you can fry them to make them even better or just add them to cereal or oatmeal

I also sometimes dry slices of mushroom to throw in soups or in the rice cooker to add flavor to rice
