Also it's from fucking April, when damn near every region in every country went full lockdown. For some actual scary details look at how many fast food places (the only restaurants able to function at nearly 100% standard during lockdowns) are on the verge of bankruptcy. Other than McD's, BK, Taco Bell, Wendy's, they're all fucked. Steak and shake most likely won't make it till the end of next year. And that's with massive investors, not just a mom and pop diner.

The entirety of dining out is fundamentally changed for the next decade at least. Nevermind chinese food.

Pretty sure it was happening before covid, fucking panda express every other mile in my city now. It's shit and I hate how they just cook everything up in huge batches so your chances of getting everything you want even remotely fresh is like winning the lottery. Every time I have gone one thing I got looked like it had been sitting there for at least an hour. But the only good local chinese place I know is halfway across the city and its just not worth the trip most of the time. I really miss the chinese place I went to as a kid I've never been able to find one that makes their lomein or wontons the same.

There are Chinese restaurants all over the place and I don't know of a single one that has closed. Its a business that has always primarily relied on take out, hard to imagine how business has not increased for them overall with many American and European style restaurants struggling to convert their whole operation to a take out model

there are 6 local chinese restaurants here within a block of each other, less than a mile apart.

2 of them are buffets and are currently open to carryout only. they are struggling badly because normally a buffet is a privilege to enjoy the atmosphere of seeing what you want and filling your plate at will. takeaway makes it completely transparent how poor quality the food is (when it is; just happens that both of these places are pretty gross)

1 of them is listed "temporarily closed." this location's food in particular is god damn disgusting, as such they aren't very popular and aren't open anymore now. most likely closed for good.

2 other chinese places of the ones i mentioned i'll admit i haven't been to them ever, so i can't judge them.

the final one, is actually doing great because they have a long legacy in this area (this location was a very popular location in the mall that re-opened rebranded years after our mall was shuttered and torn down and not everyone knows this) not only is their food good because the chefs are skilled, it's cheap, and they weren't pussies who limited their hours so they're open all the time, all day, so i go there quite often.

conclusion from this data is if your restaurant's food fucking sucks and you don't give a shit then the pandemic closings are giving them exactly what they deserve: a strangulating death. if you continued business as usual and actually gave a fuck, you're doing fine.

Those who go into banquet-style Cantonese restaurant opening are, more often than not, chefs themselves.
They know how to cook, and serve it the best way in a restaurant setting, but most are not good businessmen.
As a result, very few have adapted to COVID times by adopting new products that are attractive to those who are ordering takeout, neither have they fully embraced food-delivery systems.

I've been doing my part and have ordered delivery at least once every two weeks from my local place. It's my favorite Chinese restaurant in my area but ever since this whole thing started I feel like their fried rice hasn't been up to par. The beef and broccoli still nice tho.
