Costco Kirkland brand "Columbian" coffee comes in a tin still. We use it to dispose of sharps at work. Those things are handy for all kinds of shit.

I get both of you, but I think the plastic is pretty tonka tough too. That like a dozen knives in the this one, of various makes.

The only specific use of the metal ones I could ever think of is like holding gas in it

I live in SoCal, carried these for years in the backs of many work trucks. never had any problem with these getting brittle. If I was worried something could break these things, I wouldn't even use it in the first place
