I used to buy weed from them all the time back in the mid-90s. It was hilarious, you''d walk inside, there would rows of empty shelves with three mini bags of chips, a wall of coolers with two small bottles of ghetto juice drank, and a blacked-out window where you'd buy nickle bags through a slot. And they'd insist you spend 50 cents on a juice or some chips as you leave to "maintain the illusion" that this is a legitimate business.
Which is hilarious, since if a cop actually payed attention to me or cared about weed, they would see me walk ten blocks into Bed-Stuy, passed half a dozen other bodegas, just to buy a 50-cent bottle of fake juice.

They're just party stores (as we call them here in Michigan).

Generally overpriced for packaged items. Sometimes they have a hot buffet table in addition to sandwiches. Can get laundry soup to tylenol and other personal care products. Can be good source of fresh fruits and veg, at a better-than-grocery store price. Some have cats. Sad when they close.

Wow big change from 30 years ago when I was in NYC. Most of them were owned by Koreans at that time. I guess they moved on up to restaurants, motels or some shit and were replaced with the new immigrant wave of muslims. Basically the history of NYC in a nutshell.
