I'm getting more of a seared bite on the Aeropress, than I'm getting on the actual V Six- no no no no no no no no.... No please don't say that no no no... No. Nonononono. No no nono no no. NONO NO NONO NO NO NOOOOO. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm not gonna trip. I wanted to come in a 100% hater.

I'mma tell you off the top. I wanted to take a sip of this and be like 'ehhh nah nah it don't it it'- I'mma just flat out say it; your Aeropress /ck/, IS BETTER THAN YOUR ACTUAL V SIXTY /CK/. YOUR AEROPRESS /CK/ IS BETTER THAN YOUR ACTUAL V SIXTY /CK/. IT HAS A MORE SEARED TASTE.

IT'S MORE OF A BREWOUT FLEX. IT JUST TASTES BETTER. Get over here. You get back in the cabinet. /ck/. That sip is so flavorful my m- and the fact that it works so well, it literally compliments the aroma. Like I'm not even mad that I'm sippin' up, and I'm not even mad, that I'm sipping coffee right now with my breakfast.

You can really taste the chocolate notes because the sear, on this press based situation right here, it's so strong and you barely get nutty notes but the notes are there so you get a crunch off it, with soft fruity action with BPA? /CK/, YOU'RE ONTO SOMETHING, AND I LIKE WHERE YOU, YOU GOIN' /CK/, THE AEROPRESS COFFEE SON!

Some of my own personal favorites:
Passenger Coffee: Most consistently great roaster I know. Anything they say is good I trust is good. They've earned my trust after I've had dozens of coffees from them and not one was bad, which is fucking unheard of with my standards. I can think of 0 other roasters with a track record HALF as good from me. They also do interesting stuff with freezing to bring back old lots. Also fucking amazing at making light but soluable coffee, most of my highest extraction yields have been from them.
Sump Coffee: A local roaster to me that I honestly feel hangs in there with the big name Nordic roasters for quality. Gets closer to their style than any other US roaster I know, except for maaaaaybe Sey.
Sey: See Sump Coffee. Either the second or first most Nordic style US roaster I know.
Heart Coffee: IDK how my favorite thing about them is so fucking specific, but they're REALLY good at roasting Kenyan coffees for espresso.
Coffee Collective: Probably my second favorite it terms of raw quality to Passenger.
Tim Wendelboe: Basically the standard for Nordic coffees. Gotta try em at least once.
George Howell: See Tim Wendelboe, but for America. IMO it's a little more hit and miss (for somone on this tier, his misses still hit higher than some roasters best hits), but still one of the must-trys.
Gardelli: An actually good third wave Italian roaster with the most absolutely fucking bullshit shipping. Goddamn they're good though, their wushwush (yes there is a real coffee varietal called fucking wushwush) is some of the best coffee I've had.

>Coffee consumption has been associated with decreased mortality in previous studies. As aging, obesity, and lifestyle factors affect the risk of mortality, the association between coffee and mortality needs to be examined in various subpopulations by characteristics of subjects. To quantitatively assess this association, we conducted an updated meta-analysis including stratified analyses by potential modifiers. We searched in the PubMed and Web of Science databases through March 8, 2019, and conducted meta-analysis including linear and non-linear dose-response analyses. We identified 40 studies including 3,852,651 subjects and 450,256 all-cause and cause-specific deaths. Non-linear inverse associations between coffee consumption and mortality from all-causes, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancers were found. The lowest relative risk (RR) was at intakes of 3.5 cups/day for all-cause mortality (RR = 0.85, 95% CI 0.82-0.89), 2.5 cups/day for CVD mortality (RR = 0.83, 95% CI 0.80-0.87), and 2 cups/day for cancer mortality (RR = 0.96, 95% CI 0.94-0.99), while additional intakes were not associated with further lower mortality. An inverse association between coffee consumption and all-cause mortality was maintained irrespective of age, overweight status, alcohol drinking, smoking status, and caffeine content of coffee. By region, Europe and Asia showed stronger inverse associations than US. A non-linear inverse association was found for mortality from respiratory disease and diabetes, while linear inverse association was found for mortality from non-CVD, non-cancer causes. Moderate coffee consumption (e.g. 2-4 cups/day) was associated with reduced all-cause and cause-specific mortality, compared to no coffee consumption. The inverse association between coffee and all-cause mortality was consistent by potential modifiers except region.

Why do so many snobs get so picky about dark roasts? You would think the ROASTING part of coffee would be an essential determinant towards the quality of a coffee. The bean is more subtle but that's what makes an even more pleasant experience while getting deep roast notes

>> No.15250115

>>15250087
Dark roasting does a few things that suck:
Reduces sweetness
Increases bitterness
Reduces pleasant acid
Produces a dominant, generic roasty note that dominates all other notes

You can have all of the "depth" in a light roast, you just avoid these generic stinky smokey flavors, and preserve nuance, sweetness, acidity.

Go ahead and try tasting a dark roast next to a good quality light roast. I've shown many people how bad dark roasts are this way, even when they report prefering darker roasts before the tasting.

How do I keep that stuff fresh? I heard something about keeping the grounds in the fridge or freezer, any other tips?

>>15256121
This stuff is usually done with a Vietnamese dark roast - beans coated in clarified butter and sugar prior to being roasted to a dark level. Not the sort of bean I'd put anywhere near a moka pot.

I think it's literally impossible. Several harvests a year dependent on time of year, that year's climate and weather patterns; timing and proficiency of harvest and processing; and weather conditions during processing. There are just so many big and small variables that controlling every single one of them would make coffee cost insane amounts of money. Coffee doesn't work like that. Coffee gets grown, and coffee gets sorted and graded. Almost all of it gets sold. The really good shit is expensive, the less good less so, and the shit becomes instant coffee. Farmers gotta eat.

>The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

Quit baiting poors into wasting their money.

Since its christmas ill do some more free shilling for coffeegay. You want slightly coarser than espresso grounds. The aergrind will still do it, but do a little shopping around. It's probably something you're using more than a few times a week, so make sure to snag something you're not going to complain about for a few years. Also christmas black honey roasted to 399f.

This. A useful way to think about hand grinders is to view the price per performance the same way you would with graphics cards. The difference between a GTX 710/1020 compared to something you can pick up second hand for $100 is night and day. Not saying you should look for a second hand grinder, just useful for the sake of example.
Just save up that extra bit of money as the returns you get are exponential when you have that bit more to spend compared to something like an Amazon basic, Hario, or Wish.com grinder.

Absolutely based, Sump is where I just started ordering online from. Definitely my favorite roaster. A few years back I was looking for a coffee shop nearby and Sump(St. Louis, they have a location in Nashville as well) was the closest and I've been hooked ever since. They always have the best beans, I can't go there without ordering a few coffees though. Do you have any reading comprehension at all?
The issue is that this device has many times the stored energy of a moka pot.
If you look up moka pot explosions, you can see they have in fact exploded in the past when the safety valve failed. However, this isn't too big of a deal because the steam in them is under very low pressure. There isn't much stored energy to release.
The 9barista is under several times the pressure of a Moka pot. It's like a Moka pot is a firecracker, and the 9barista is a fucking pipe bomb. Because that's, literally, what it is if both the safety valve and brewing valve fail to open. Look up "steam boiler explosion deaths" to see why it's a bad idea to pressurize steam to that degree without a proper boiler technician.

The folgers at my office actually makes me gag. We use one of those huge Bunn brewers. I dont know how that thing does it so bad but holy fuck it's disgusting. It fucks up the Starbucks packets too but what it does to Folgers is otherworldly.

You realize the 9barista isn't chinkmade pressed aluminum with the cheapest valve they can source right? People with an iq under lukewarm water aren't spending money on this. People with an iq above lukewarm water keep their shit maintained.

Show me some mokapots shooting through sheetrock please. I see no structural damage to anything in that picture. It didn't even break the fucking glass jar 6in from it.

I've got some of these on the way. Figured after sending out $2/lbs of christmas gifts, I deserve some $2/cups

Its very hard to estimate the pressure you're applying from day to day, but that little $50 addition gives you a little guideline to try to adhere to. I spent money on the SEP and really enjoy using it. Does it change the function at all? Nope, but its been incredibly useful in my experience.

That's not a bad idea. Might be worth the extra little bit of bulk.

I still have some sheet metal, could potentially use some tin snips to make a similar frame for a similar concept. Not sure how good of an idea using some galvanized steel for that would be, but it might be safe as long as it doesn't directly touch the coffee and it just holds the filter.

Those are just little self contained disposable drip bags.

https://kurasu.kyoto/collections/drip-bags

If you're actually memepacking frequently, why not look into one of these?

You could probably budget 25g of compact stainless if you've already got a water boiling setup. I'll report back on these dumb drip bags. Got 2 each of Guatemala Las Brisas, Honduras Los Colibris, and Ethiopia Refisa. I think the weather is going to fuck me and I'm not going to have beans roasted for when the origami gets here.

Tbh I don't really "budget" my weight, I just kinda take whatever I think I need, and I'm a cheap asshole so I buy shit used or DIY or bushcraft whatever I need that I didn't buy or pack. Those little folders are actually super cool though, might just splurge a little for that.

Yes. That's exactly where the problem lies.
If it was chinkmade aluminum, it would not be able to hold enough pressure to cause a seriously dangerous explosion. The solid construction is why it's going to go off like a fucking pipe bomb if it goes off. And all valves have the potential to fail. It shouldn't even be fucking legal to sell to someone who isn't a certified boiler technician. High pressure steam boiler maintenance isn't something even a relatively intelligent person or a fucking genius can be trusted with, proper training and certification is a hard requirement. Entire fucking city blocks have been taken out by people with decades of experience slipping up. Steam pressure is a fucking monster that does not belong in the home.
My bad on the Moka pots and sheetrock, I was thinking of pressure cookers which somewhat regularly shoot lids through drywall ceilings. And they operate at a maximum of not even 2bar. The 9barista operates at fucking NINE.

A hand grenade has, ballpark, 200-300k joules of energy stored as gunpowder to release. The 9barista, with both valves in a failed closed state, has approximately 170-200k joules of energy stored as steam under 9 bar of pressure, and more if it doesn't give until well past 9bar. It's straight up a bomb.

You should unironically email your concerns to them, and post back here when you get a reply. I'd be interested in what they reply.
