I'm not sure where the name oil lamp derived from, but historically olive oil was actually the first oil used for lighting purposes (with evidence dating 4,500 years ago, versus whale fat being popularized in Northern Europe in the 18th century). I don't know if we borrowed the name for oil lamps from those earlier versions, but this seems reasonable. Even if we did not, a word can have different meanings in different contexts. For example, a tomato is a culinary vegetable, but a botanical fruit. It is in no way a culinary fruit. Oil, so far as it is applied in the cooking world, means what I described it to. And since you're on a cooking board, you should not pretend to be obtuse and misunderstand why people would correct your improper usage of oil.

Sunny side up
Poached

>> No.15220009

>>15219957
The "over" in over easy/medium/hard implies flipping. Sunny side up means it's never flipped, the yolk is clear and exposed. To set the top you have to use steam, put it on a bit of a lower heat and add a lid, optionally a splash of water to help set it too. Don't spoon cooking fat over the yolk either, that'll give a similar result. It's okay to spoon the fat onto the rest of the white if you want, though, but it's not the typical way to prepare it.
