They're good. Huge difference in quality between supermarket tomatoes and those you get at farmers markets/from your own backyard, though. It is the case with most produce that the supermarket variety is inferior, but I don't think there's any greater disparity as there is with tomatoes.

Most Americans only eat fast food, so tomatoes are usually soggy/gritty wet and covered in mayo and iceberg lettuce slime.
