How do I store things like onions and potatoes so they don’t go bad? They start molding after a week in my pantry

Dehumidify your pantry. Needs to be Dark and preferably several degrees below room temperature.
I store mine in the kitchen and they last a month (temperate climate)

If your fridge is clean, put them in there

Try keeping them in the sun and in a well-ventilated position.
I've literally never had potatoes get moldy in the fridge OP

no Americans tend to buy big orders to last for the month, because we don't have a shop on every corner like Europe

carb heavy diet while the rest of diet is nutritionally devoid from depleted soils and corn fed live stock. Anyways most of are not fat until our late 30s after we had kids and stopped giving a fuck. (flyovers don't count)

If you're unironically serious, then put them in a bag and put that in your fridge

Mold = wet, dark, warm

Store your onions and potatoes where it is dry and cold. Light won't matter after that. Easy peasy.

Onions can be refrigerated. You get the bonus of less eye-burn and easier to peel. Potatoes should be kept in a cool dark place.

You might have a humidity problem. How hot and humid is it at your place? And if you choose to get a dehumidifier don't get a swamp type, them fuckers are useless and just attract bacteria and mold.

Your pantry sucks, buy a compressor based dehumidifier with a pump.

Store the onions away from the potato's. They ripen each other quicker. I keep my potato's and onions in separate cardboard boxes slid into dark cabinets

When they're fresh, store them in your stomach and they won't go bad. Just don't be surprised when they turn to shit.
