chicken mozambique is delicious and easy, cook chicken in a pan with butter, add a couple cloves of minced garlic then deglaze with a beer. Add hot sauce, a couple packs of goya con azafran and a little red wine vinegar and then simmer it down. Serve with rice and fries

I never understood the hipster hype around Franceshina. The bread is soggy, there are too many different meats that don't go well together, the texture is just not right.
It's just a worsen version of the French croque monsieur.

Stop using words you don't understand. Hipsters spend two hours on public transportation to go to a shitty ethnic neighborhood and try whatever shit they have at whatever place doesn't have a menu in English. They don't fly halfway around the world to try a gimmick dish only served in a particular city because they saw it featured in every travel magazine and food network show. That's like saying premium bars are hipster because you can only buy them at Disneyland.

What? It's just annoying when everything has to be so negative, especially when people go out of their way to shit on something when it sounds like they have no clue what they're talking about. You're the one who sounds like you just lost an argument and are resorting to, "u mad" or, "seething", even though we weren't even arguing about anything.

I never expected to see food from my country discussed here. Portuguese guy here, AMA.

For such a small country, I think we have a lot of diversity and regional dishes. I'm from the Beira Alta region, which is a mostly rural region between Lisbon and Porto, in the interior, and one of my favorite dishes from around here that isnt seen much elsewere, is Migas de Broa (pic related). Crumbled Broa de Milho (portuguese cornbread - very different from the sweet cornbread from the south of the US), sauteed in olive oil and mixed with minced garlic, julienned collard, and sometimes beans. Usually used to go along with a Cozido à Portuguesa, for example. It really tastes like something greater than the sum of its parts.

I can post here some more lesser known portuguese dishes, if you're interested.

oh my god i was just thinking about that dish a few days ago but couldn't remember its name

last year I visited lisbon and after getting drunk as fuck at the hotel bar I hooked up with a german milf. We went back to her room we fucked then i threw up on the bed and I passed out. Next morning I found a restaurant at a cable car line or something like that. I ordered this because the waiter didn't speak english and the only thing he could tell me about it was "pork".
It wasnt anything special but it is a good hungover food. I had little to no appetite and the waiter was a nigger also so it made things much worse for the eating experience.
6/10 its worth a try if you are in portugal
Now that I come to think of it I didn't eat anything good while I was there
Any anons can recommend some rustic portugese dish?

Idk what that is, its not really tradicional here.

Rustic dishes... We have a lot of them... Meat or fish?

For meat one that comes to mind is Rancho. It's a one pot stew.
>Fry onion and garlic in olive oil
>Add tomato puree and bay leaf
>Add chouriço
>add pork, cubed
>Add cabbage
>Add chickpeas and penne pasta.

Result should look like pic related, It's a runny sauce. But it's very versatile, portuguese recipes are usually very forgiving. Also you can add some spice, like some people do. Dried Malaguetas are a very popular hot pepper here.

I can give you plenty of rustic portuguese dishes, i think our cuisine is pretty good at that.

Caldeirada is a good example of a fish rustic dish. A lot of fish stewed in potatoes and Bell peppers, in a tomato sauce.

Sounds like you were in São Miguel. That's a great dish, but for me I'm going to have to say Sopa de Espírito Santo from Terciera. What was once a poor man's soup filled with bread, cabbage potatoes and sometimes carrots. Mixed in with heavy fatty meats like linguica and thick cuts of bacon, beef and sometimes blood pudding. Topped off with some herbs and spices. People in the Villages would get together and make huge pots of this stuff during the summer festivals.
