It makes us feel feminine. I just feel like polish looks a little funny on nails that are short. Long nails feel more womanly whereas short nails feels boyish or girlish to me. When I have had to have short nails for work I don't bother with polish (also work is really hard on it). I think it's something women do more because we enjoy it than for guys. And the longer the nail the more room you have for polish. Also I'm pretty sure guys are kind of into it.
