Howdy /ck/, today i decided to get out of the comfort zone and cooked a Locust that i found in my garden.
Cooking it was really easy, it died instantly when it touched the boiling water and it's color transformed into a bright red color, just like a shrimp or a lobster.
Here's mister Locust giving you a thumps up

I looked up online and it seemed like people either eat it whole or remove the legs and head, so i went with the 2nd option and had a locust filet.
Overall it doesnt taste bad, i would give it 4/10, only complaint i have is it had a little of a dusty/gritty feel to it, but overall it's good and didnt upset my stomach at all.
So i think it would be easily turned into an 8/10 meal if fried and spiced, maybe even turned into patties.

you're anthropomorphizing way too hard here making assumptions that these things have any concept of "enjoy" that is remotely anything like that of cognizant creatures like mammals or avians or reptiles. don't get me wrong even for these lower creatures I don't see any reason to eat them alive anyway but it's rather silly to believe they even have a notion of suffering and use that as your reason

They have a notion of "That could do damage, time to leave" which is plenty enough to conclude that hurting them should be avoided when possible. By "do not enjoy it" I mean they avoid it. It's difficult to find the right words to describe their behaviors without using the closest human behavior.

I know what you're trying to do here but insects are magnitudes more intelligent than a being which depends entirely on the intelligence of the cells that make up their flesh.

I wouldn't eat wild insects anywhere near civilization. They're likely to have accumulated a variety of pesticides that could make you sick.
If you have a local species you want to eat, try catching a few and raising generations of them at home. You can keep many varieties of cricket, worm, beetle, arachnid, pillbug, centipede/milipede, roach or hemipteran happy in a box with proper nutrition and regular cleaning. Some of those are pretty damn tasty, it turns out.

I had a bunch of dried june bugs boiled with old bay and beer once. It was a stupid idea, I had no idea what taste to expect from a beetle but treating them like a crab boil was far from complimentary. June bugs (and in fact most beetles) have a very earthy, vaguely floral taste to them. It was disgusting crunching into their practically hollowed husks and getting bursts of this floral fragrance I had previously associated with the smell of my pet rat's piss-absorbing, scented bedding.
Anyone else here try beetles before? I want to know what taste would compliment something so specific. Maybe mole sauce?

>> No.15094076

Scorpions, on the other hand, would crab boil really well. They don't have a lot of meat in their legs and claws but what is there is surprisingly beefy and fishy, like an extra flavorful lobster. I've had a few giant water scorpions boiled in old bay once. It takes ages to seep in through the chitin but when it does, the end product is something I honestly crave from time to time.
