Ok anons, the weather is getting colder, trees are changing colors, and drinks are getting hotter.
Let's settle the age old debate: Is water or milk better for hot cocoa?

Personally, I grew up on water in cocoa and now milk cocoa is too rich for me. Would like to hear what you all think.

2% milk is ideal for hot cocoa.

I honestly had no idea that people made hot cocoa with water, sounds horrible. Unless you're talking about those mixes that already have some kind of condensed milk in them?
I find 2% milk is just about right, whole milk is great but a little too heavy if you're drinking it after a meal.

It's pretty good. Makes it more like coffee than a dessert drink.

Hot chocolate has to be made with milk. It's horrible with water.

milk for hot chocolate, water for hot cocoa.

Ive used everything from water to milk, to milk alternatives.
My goto is water, but ive found that using coconut milk is the best. Its neutral(mostly) in flavor and isnt so much creamy as cow milk or almond milk.
Thats just me.

Wait, are we talking about this kind of stuff? Because to me it seems plenty creamy even without milk.

Half and half with chocolate pieces melted in on the stove.

Got an even better idea: use coffee instead of milk or water

Microwave some apple juice with cinnamon.

I use hot water so the cocoa disolves, fill the mug and drop in some tablespoons of heavy milk. Very rich and chocolate-y. Also a couple drops of vanilla extract and cinnamon if I'm feeling fancy

Buttermilk is the best option. It really adds a lot to the chocolate. Bonus points for using a real dark chocolate.
