You most likely bitched about every single order that you've placed so we told you to fuck off. You're costing Skip money and the restaurants money.

There are a lot of people like who place orders and complain about them the second they get it.

Look hard and you'll notice a trend:

1) take basic no-name dish that exists in every culture
2) do some autistic unnecessary shit
3) give it a french name, claim it's some super special dish, when the name is just french for basic shit.

example: coq au vin. It's literally just chicken stew.

I just took my wife on a date to a tapas restaurant in America. It was priced $6-11 per plate, and we ordered three plates plus dessert. I thought each dish was priced reasonably. We were both uncomfortably full after three plates (taking dessert to-go), eating roughly the same amount, even though I am a tall tub of lard and she's a short twig. Plus, the service was commendable and the ambiance was delightfully nondescript in that IKEA-futurism kind of way.

Without a doubt it is the EU product origin laws
"you can't call that X unless it comes from Y"
>totally arbitrary
>completely corrupt
>abuse of market power
>Violates national marketing laws
>inflates the price of products for consumers

So "Champaign" has to come from the "Champaign region"- seems fair right
Except this creates a cartel where a small number of producers can fix the global price.
Can producers in these regions just buy ingredients from other regions and charge double? of course, that's the whole point!
Can a region produce a raw product, process it somewhere labour is cheaper and still claim the label? Sure, why not.
Why can producers do both these things, sometimes at once?
They sall their raw produce for quadruple what it's worth because it allows the buyer to claim the label; and at the same time they can make their own with shitty imported ingredients.

Why don't countries get angry about this?
They can't do jack shit about it, because they are part of he EU and will get sanctioned and sued by everyone if they try.

ALDI was successfully prosecuted for making "Champaign ice cream" when they used actual champagne from champagne.
It was reversed on appeal, but even the reversal was a heap of shit

>> No.15051794

>>15051765
I would also add, that there is more (often hundreds of times more) of these protected products on the market than are declared by the regions concerned.
Almost all are counterfeit.

How can counterfeiting of this scale go on without the region blowing the whistle?
Because they are counterfeiting it themselves, knowing nobody else has any motivation to lay charges except consumers, being able to manipulate the legitimate trade to hide the counterfeiting, and exploiting loopholes in national law.

Champagne comes up again and again, there is just no way you can make the global sales figures add up.
Champagne houses claim to produce more than the region itself declares to begin with- and many international exporters claim to have sold more than the region produced as well, and they have the money so the question is what exactly did they sell

The price of soda.

>Non-Alcoholic Beverages
These items cost the restaurant between 5 cents and 20 cents per serving. Keep that in mind the next time you want to order a $2.50 Coke. Soda is so cheap that paper cups, when used, represent a bigger expense than the soda itself.

I've had more negative experiences with restaurants in the last 10 years that aren't associated with my wallet

>food raw/cooked incorrect
>waiters rude and condescending for no reason
>entire order forgotten or intentionally not made (looking at you, BJ's)
>restaurant bought out for the night after specifically making a reservation with no cancellation phone call
>unclean restaurant despite being higher end
>incapable bartender
>rushed dining experience as if waitstaff doesn't want you there
etc

What is that about? I specifically had this happen multiple times in Minneapolis. I don't know what their deal is, but I went to several high end restaurants and they acted like they were doing me a fucking favor.

I have no dietary restrictions, I don't hit on the staff like a boomer, I don't skimp, I tip well, I'm a generally decent guy.

The entire time it seemed like the waitstaff couldn't be bothered serve me, basically throwing the shit on the table. Same thing with the hostess when I first got to a restaurant.

I told her my name and asked if my table was ready because I was 5 min early. She looked at me like I had an ear growing out of my forehead, paused for like a minute, then said she'd have to go check.

I was travelling for work so this was like a Tuesday and the place was dead. It was so confusing. The whole atmosphere felt like they were telling you you're lucky to be here. Like what the fuck I'm the one paying.

I've never been more triggered in my life. Craziest part was the food was actually great.

In my experience a lot of people are dissatisfied with their job because it doesn't offer any growth. Often times the shift + commute + unstable hours devour any time for relaxing, self-care, or social activities. Many people who have "failed in life" and become a waiter want to either go for the first time or return to school but don't have the money or time.
Also, many customers are entitled as fuck. When people go out to a restaurant, they expect to have a moderately good time and if a good time is not had, then the blame usually falls on the waitstaff. Some people will go out of their way to take out their anxieties on a vulnerable individual. If a waiter stands up for themselves while being emotionally abused by a customer, they will get a write-up or fired on the spot. A waiter is expected to go to their manager in hopes of getting someone else to take over, which more often than not doesn't happen. It creates a cold employee who "has a spine" but does not want to engage beyond what is necessary to get their job done.
Even people who go out of their way to be as nice as possible and even make their waiter smile can't break through. It's just part of the growing dissatisfaction in work culture.

On the other hand, there are people who truly - for lack of a better word - bootlick and put on a song and dance for every moment of the day in hopes of rising in the corporate ladder despite receiving just as much abuse from customers and neglect from their higher ups. I don't know how they do it or if they are just better at hiding their brokenness.

That's basically the exact opposite of spanish tapas.
In spain the portions are tiny. You're not actually supposed to fill up on them. You order a couple, have some sangria, then stroll out into a plaza for a while before going to the next tapas place and doing it all over again.
Waiters are rude and you have to basically hunt them down and force them to take your order.

Oh for sure, I know people don't like their jobs, I hate mine. I also used to work in a restaurant so I'm aware of the general soul suck that is the service industry.

Maybe I wasn't describing it right, but this was not malaise, anger, or depression. It was like snooty and acting like they were better than me. It was really odd, I don't quite know how to describe it. Kinda like I said, they were acting as if I were lucky to be dining there. Like this shit isn't Noma, it's a hip restaurant in the twin cities and it's a slow weekday.

Sorry if I'm coming off shitty, but I also haven't had this issue in other cities to often. But it just seemed like a lot of the waitstaff felt like they were too good to be waitstaff or something.

Maybe it was the culture of the restaurant, but it happened at a couple of different places.

Best service I had was at a hot dog joint called Uncle Franky's. Idk maybe I just don't jive with people in Minneapolis.

I kinda see where you're going with that. It was like your typical "New American" small plate restaurant vibe. So not really specific to a culture, I'd say mixed but mostly white.

It wasn't like I was an outsider intruding. Except that's what it felt like.

Also tbf when I go to places where I'm the minority, I typically get treated very well and have a great time.

Had that happen to me recently. Went out with my dad, grandma, and wife just after lunch, and grandma had spent all morning going through a battery of medical tests and had been fasting for a day. Wife and I ordered some cocktails while waiting for dad and grandma to get out of testing, and had eaten lunch before leaving the house, then when the rest of the party showed up, we didn't get food, told the waiter that we were just having drinks. Once he realized only 2/4 were eating entrees, he totally fucking ignored us afterwards. I easily could have gone for another round or two, as could my wife, but he never showed back up until he dropped the check.

Like, FFS retard, when you're charging $10/cocktail, not giving customers a chance to refill them kept an extra $40 off the bill, and he never checked in on dad and grandma after they got their food. Stiffed him on the tip.

First of all, I agree, but Americans can't get good pho because the restaurants have to cater to them, meaning the broth is going to be too heavy and sweet, or completely bland (and they hand you the hoisin sauce bottle and tell you "it's very authentic!")

Second, holy shit, making pho at home is not gonna turn out well. If it's dark or cloudy, you've fucked up. It's a dish that's super hard to nail at home and you basically NEED a family recipe.
