We have like 2 starbucks for the whole city of melbourne, Australia. Ive only gone to a Starbucks once and it was filled with Asian tourists and international exchange students. It was one of the worse coffee experiences, not only because it tasted like sugary syrup but because of the prices. 8 dollars for a cup of coffee that taste worse than my 4 dollar espresso from a run down greek donut van. I have pretty bad buyers remorse and I was angry at myself for a day for wasting a cent at that place. What was worse was that I started suffering from severe headaches and anxiety from consuming too much sugar. I felt like vomitting for half a day. I dont know whats the appeal of Starbucks in the USA? Anyone going to these places obviously dont like the taste of coffee.

>> No.15028487

A way to rob people who aren't paying attention from their own potential to save. 5+ dollars for coffee? I'd rather drink God tier tea at home, and save my money for the occasional good restaurant.

Starbucks had the genius idea to market milkshakes as coffee. You're right to say they don't sell coffee because they don't. Sure you can get a cup of coffee there but it's pretty shit and not at all what they're known for

People that get takeaway overpriced wank from Star Bucks are legitimately retards.

Star Bucks makes sense as a place to meet up with a friend for a chat. $5+ for a flavoured coffee and a sit around in a fairly comfortable place with a friend is money well spent. Obviously you might be better going somewhere independent, but that's not always the best idea, they're not automatically good, but you should give them a try.

But $5+ on takeout coffee... fucking hell what are you doing.
Stick to the filter stuff if you really need to go to Star Bucks for your coffee fix. But ideally go literally anywhere else, McDonalds and spend less and also get breakfast. Or bring a fucking flask.

>it was filled with Asian tourists and international exchange students.
Because that's who they're targeted at

Starbucks realised that Australians don't want their shitty 'coffee', hence why they pulled out over a decade ago. They've slowly been opening stores again over the last couple of years with a new strategy of opening them in areas frequented by tourists and foreigners.

With the kind of top-quality coffee we have here, I don't know why on earth any Aussie would go anywhere near those shithole stores. Gimme a flat white with one sugar any day of the week.

>I dont know whats the appeal of Starbucks in the USA?
They established themselves in the 1970s as basically the only place most Americans could get real coffee, even if it was shit coffee.
That and America's ever growing demand for pure sugar intake and Starbucks' willingness to make a syrupy milkshake with 10% actual coffee in it created the monster you see today.

Starbucks is the only place I go where there seems to be a general animosity towards customers and any issues.

Comfy chairs and fast wifi. Starbucks meteoric success is directly tied in to the popularity of Friends. Everybody wanted a local, comfy coffee place to hang out at but most of America didn't have a place like that so Starbucks sold them a pre-packaged version.

Dunkin doesn't really exist West of the Great Lakes. They've got a strong territory and they've decided to defend their borders rather than expand.
Seattle is also oversaturated with coffee places. Seattle's Best, which has been a subsidiary of Starbuck's since 2003, is basically the Dunkin of the PNW.

Starbucks cafes are fine. I like the cold brew coffee and sometimes I’ll get a latte but for the most part is rather not go to Starbucks if I can help it. They're fine if you need a neutral comfortable place to go talk with a friend after a meal somewhere. You can leave your table and transition to Starbucks or similar.
They're fine as an interstate stop where you can grab a morning coffee, then a bagged lunch to enjoy a bit later. Their sandwiches and fruit/cheese trays are good.

DD's presence in the Western states waxes and wanes. I remember growing up in South Dakota in the 80s seeing a lot more Dunkins around (the one local to me was famous for getting robbed like six times in a row) but by the 90s they were all gone, now they're making a bit of comeback but Starbucks still owns the West. The Northeast will always be a DD stronghold. EVERYBODY in the NE goes to Dunkin regardless of socioeconomic status.
