You're really missing out. It's one of my favorite ways to eat deenz. The flavour of the deenz, mixed with the tomato sauce, and the textures of the pasta and the deenz compliment each other perfectly.
Just make sure you get deenz that still have the bone in it, or else the deenz fall apart and the whole thing turns into a pasta salad-type dish, and isn't as good.

You need a lot of finely minced leeks, or shallots, or (if neither are available) some decent red onions, plus the juice of one lemon (not lime, limes go better with lean fish) and finely ground pepper.

These are the sardines that started it all for me. About 11 years ago.

I dont know how they would stack up to most brands today but I loved these. I would chill the pouches and mash the pouch up. I dont think these exist anymore, at least that I have seen.

I've used those on pasta but they're very plain by themselves. I've never liked sardines in tomato sauce but sun dried tomatoes is a good combo.
Beach cliff is the worst I've had. I used to eat them a lot for protein but eventually I had to admit I couldn't stand how mushy and even soupy they were.

Just tried my first can of deenz after seeing these threads all the time. They were pretty tasty, if a little dry. I had the can with tomato sauce since I wasn't sure what to go with. Are ones with oil less dry? It wasn't bad, I was just spreading them on crackers so I needed a drink with it

I went for these, really good for only 40p. Glad I went for the skin and bone version because it doubles the price and the skin was the tastiest bit. Bones took a bit of getting used to but it's not as bad as I thought

What should I go for next? There was canned herring for 60p but I thought sardines were herring

wow. Never eating sardines again.

>Most people who eat canned sardines just plop the suckers on some crackers or pizza as is because the cooking/steaming process at most canneries softens the bones to the point where they're edible. I, naturally, am one of the few people who has choked on sardine spine and I'm not at all down for a repeat performance.

>Okay, yes, they already gut sardines at most canneries, but they don't always do such a great job. Every time I slice open one of these bad boys, there's at least a little bit of intestine left, but there can also be surprising things like eggs or a somewhat digested smaller fish. The bitterness of sardine intestines is enjoyable to some, but I'm not really interested in eating fish poop.

>So, I'm not gonna lie, the first time I laterally sliced open the tail-end of a sardine to reveal a plethora of fish eggs, I gagged throughout the whole process.

the seasons are very firm and meaty, if that makes sense. they're not bad, but since you already have a taste for deenz, they probably won't be one of your favorites.

Ok, decided to go with the Season brand for something different. The can is very cool looking, the top part is like aluminum foil almost, which is unusual.

I tried them. They’re pretty good, but not anything special. They taste almost identical to the Crown Prince deenz, and are similarly priced. Not bad, but not that interesting either. The lack of skin and bones really takes away from the overall enjoyment of this brand though.

Always good to see new deenz fans showing up.
Now for the recip: Drain the oil from the can, break the deenz into smaller pieces, and then mix in the deenz with the pasta after you've added the sauce. That's how I do it at least. I reccomend cutting each sardine into 3 pieces before mixing in with the pasta.

Pic related. I'm pretty impressed with them, for how affordable they are. I've tried oscars and a few others, but we usually buy these in bulk at costco so that's what i got. Pretty good though, a good amount of oil that's not overpowering. Good for cooking with too.

Just had some deenz on one slice of toast with a little bit of Coleman's mustard on it, just enough to clear the sinuses, and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
Perfection.

If you've never had Colman's its VERY spicy, in a horseradish kinda way.

(From left to right)
1. Kung Gustaf 9/10 the perfect deen, nice size, good tomato sauce enhances the flavour without being overpowering.
2. El dorado 7/10 Despite being a poorfag brand for gypsies it's surprisingly good, the tomato sauce is not flavourful enough for me.
3. Nixe 5/10 the deen chunks are too big, kinda tasteless.
4. EVA 2/10 also too big barely tastes anything, the biggest bones I've ever found in canned deens.
