>Power's been out for three days now
>Cleaned out the fridge and freezer today
>Had to stop by work to check a few things out, was hoping to pick up some fast food
>The lines are absolutely insane right now, often times wrapping around the block
I just don't want to eat more granola bars, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and canned food

Why didn't you grill? Zeta wasn't that bad

Zeta wasn't that bad and neither was Delta, but I lost power for 24 hours in Baton Rouge.

There a a bunch of people from World Central Kitchen giving out hot meals all over the hurricane ravished areas. If you have twitter you can hit them up and see if they have any in your area. @WCKitchen

I had power out for about 36 hours and just grilled what would go bad in freezer from zeta

My street was the only street in Sevenoaks that didn't lose power that night. It was weird, I think it's because I am almost directly across from CAMD.

I live in the Garden District and there were a couple of streets that kept their power for some reason. It was pretty neat watching the sky filled with the blue/green color of popping transformers that night.

It did make me realize that I need to just get a small generator when the prices hopefully drop around Christmas.

>> No.14990692

>>14990673
most of my neighbors have generac generators that power the house, those portable ones are only good for a few appliances at a time.

I genuinely have to ask, given how frequently the entire city seems to be in utter disaster, why do you continue living there

>> No.14990707

>>14990692
Yeah, I don't intend to run everything. Just the refrigerator, lights, and a small window unit. I have gas appliances so I should be fine for all but running the microwave. Those Generacs will run you $8-12k and it's just not worth it when a small Honda generator can get you by.

some of these are from BR, the others from NO. BR has managed to be on the outer edge or missed by most of the 5 storms we had this season. The storms weren't that bad, but a couple of places lost power for longer than others. If I had a choice I would move out of state, but I can't right now.

>> No.14990715

I don't think it's that bad. The cost of living is fairly low and if people would just stop shooting each other all the fucking time, it'd be even better.

>> No.14990718

>>14990707
you may need two generators then, the portable ones usually can't handle the lights, fridge, and AC. A Yeti cooler and a generator could get you by though

I admit I need to look into the power consumption of my appliances to make a decision. I don't have a window unit, but I'd have to buy a suitably small one.

I'm in an entire different state but I live here cuz I was born here my family is here my job was here. This is the worst hurricane to hit since Katrina and that was 15 years ago and this wasn't so horrible. Plus we got legalized gambling so that's nice

well the gulf coast has seen a very active season this year, it usually isn't this bad. BR, NO, and Biloxi are all in a radius of about 180 miles from each other. It's not really the metro area. People in these areas are stubborn and are used to the way life is down here, it's a different sense of community than other parts of the country. Or they are here for school or jobs or other reasons that keep them here.

Go to vons.
Pick up a bunch of produce and food that keeps for a week or so:
Carbs, onion, eggs, garlic, canned veggies, canned tomatoes(also a veggie ofc but you might not think of it while thinking of canned veggies), flour(you van now make basic pancakes and flatbreads of different kinds, butter and spices.

Now you have a bunch of different stuff you can make. Sure, it might be vegetarian for now, but just pay your bills and then get back to meat.
