You’re talking about a keg of beer which has the same monetary cost as 8 beers at the bar. Buy more kegs. If you are about to make the argument that you want to try 6 different beers from 6 different kegs that only works for like 3-4 nights and then you have done the combinations. Either you will have to argue to me that you’re going to go out and drink once and never again for months or admit you’re supporting assholes. If what you are saying is true it is the one rare mathematical case where it’s true that a bar has some value, at which point just invest in your friends having more kegs over time and by the time you want to drink the pricing will be the same for you while heavily increasing value for your friends. If you like drinking a lot of mediocre beer in a small amount of time, sure, izakaya will give you as much as you can drink in hour-long time slots. If you really work at it, you can definitely drink more in an hour for a cheaper rate than if you bought the beers canned. How shit are these pours that they're only getting 12oz to a pint? There should be a line, crown, or etching at the pint mark. That's where the liquid's supposed to come to for a pint. In England a pint's about 568mL, in the US, it's about 473, and in Canada it's 500mL. Any bar I've been in in the three countries has branded glasses (either the bar's brand, or the beers') with standardized pint marks.

you guys are such silly autists. anyway where i'm from, people don't really go to bars alone. going out here is always in groups or social circles. sometimes i wish i could just walk into a bar and meet people easily like in the west, but here everyone is confined to their groups, friends, or acquaintances in bars.

It's not super usual to walk into a place and strike up a conversation with a total stranger, but every now and then - especially after a couple drinks - someone catches someone else's vibes, and some good conversations and friendships can come of that. So can some horrible relationships and quickly forgotten one-offs.

>> No.14991136

Most countries include the tax in the price of the meal because people don't like knowing how much they're paying the government.

One good thing about Canada: if you think your pint pour is short, you can snitch on them to the government.

If you had a taproom closer than the bar why didn't you just go there to begin with? The only reason to go to bars anyway these days is for the food, but most taprooms have food trucks.

If you know a bar owner who's making that kind of bank, send me an address - I'm nabbing some of those tips.

If the bar does it consistently, then yeah, do something about it. If it's a service industry fuckup - new keg, error on a tank/line change, new staff - just get your free pint and put it in your mouth before more words fall out.

Some beers taste better from tap depending on area, but bars are for socializing and picking up women.

>> No.14991204

Not right now. And you'd have to put about $500K into opening a bar in order to reap a million profit over a five year period. Alcohol's got a better margin than food does, but not without added risk, and the training needed to mitigate it.

The only "heckin' millionairinos" selling beer are Disney and people who own similar venues like sports stadiums, and at those places you're paying $10 for an 8 ounce plastic cup of rebranded macrolager. And nobody is "standardizing" a pint into a 12oz glass, because nobody but OP would fall for that, and he's obviously not going to be a repeat customer.

That "friend" of yours ought to have kicked your stupid ass for embarrassing him like that, that's absolute horseshit and I HAVE been that friend. We were invited to a local taproom (aka a brewery-owned bar that serves the brewery's brews) and he said to the bartender "Yeah uhh I'll have uh Miller", she and the guy who invited us both looked at him dumbfounded, he pitched a fit. "Five dollars for a beer? Guess I'm having ONE fucking beer, then. What kind of a bar doesn't have fucking Miller?". God I'm still seething over it, horrifically classless ass-fucking-hole.

Fuck you dude.
If you short me what you're legally obligated to provide, I am reporting your ass to the liquor board. They send people in to investigate this shit. You will get caught, you will lose your license, you will get fucking punished for your grifting. There is literally no excuse for not giving a proper pour. If you cannot do the bare minimum to run your business, you do not deserve to be in business.

If you go around reporting establishments instead of accepting a replacement pint possibly for free on top of the now-free shit pint you got, you can absolutely expect to be investigated for abuses of the legal system, and blacklisted on a city-wide basis once people catch on. They can refuse you service for any reason, especially when that reason is that you go out of your way to harm businesses in the field.

Welcome to my blog. I apologize now, and profusely throughout.

I was on tour with a band in Vancouver. We had a day's rehearsal, which went smoothly, so we hit the pub. Someone fucked up a keg changeover so hard it fucked up the whole system - milk pours for everyone. The owner was behind the bar, and she was FUCKING MORTIFIED... So a bunch of musicians, crew, and locals drank for free until closing.

We gave her a bunch of backstage passes for that. We thought it was pretty decent of her to keep serving instead of closing down.

It's not "that easy", but both of those posters are describing essentially how the game is played in simple terms. I've also known people (well, one guy in par-TIC-u-lar) who have gone all in on that and genuinely fucked their financial health by playing that game too-desperately, going to bars too often and attempting to flaunt money they don't have to impress girls who would be repulsed by literally-everything-else-about-them except for the material benefit they can reap from this one man's desperation.

Make no mistake, though. "Fancy" bars and restaurants, "with good atmosphere", are merely stages on which to perform. Come to play, or stay home. Anyone who balks at 5-7 dollars for a pint of good beer is unfit to be taking up space in those kinds of places, better-served at dives with the 2-dollar-PBR's, and even then (especially then?) tip well to avoid being dreaded by the service staff. If you want cheap, too-plentiful booze without being expected to perform pro-social behavior, literally go to the grocery store and take your shamewasser home.

Yeah, and that's good ass service and also an honest mistake.
My problem is folks in more touristy areas who advertise a pint and price it like 20oz but then make it between 12-16oz and do not clearly indicate pour volumes on the menu. That's shady business, and outright illegal.
I mean I have no problem with a smaller pint, so long as it's clearly indicated and priced as such.

They couldn't even offer a 12 oz "pint" or a 16 oz pint outside of the US. Apparently if I go down the road and say "Je voudrais une pinte s'il vous plait," they have to bring me 40oz. That must be hell in Montreal.
