It's a little bit different, the gyros I get are usually
>lamb
>onion
>tomato
>tzatziki
Wrapped in a round pita, whereas döner are like
>lamb
>"salad" (iceberg lettuce, chopped onion, cucumber, and tomato)
>shredded red cabbage
>a white sauce that I think is more like the garlic sauce you get from halal carts than tzatziki
In a more square bread that's almost like a crunchy focaccia, that they cut open and shove the ingredients into like a "pocket" (though different places make it different ways, in OP's pic it looks like a thin almost tortilla-like wrap) - see pic related

Once you eat a good Döner you won't eat everything else. I'm from Germany and only here you can get the real experience. I was in every middle European country and let me tell you, the Döner in Germany tastes the best.

>> No.14933335

>>14933189
At least in Germany gyros pita is made from pork gyros or less common lamb and served with onions, cabbage salad and tzatziki while döner is made from beef/veal (which is in most cases not even actual meat, but just ground meat) or very rare lamb with onions, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red cabbage, cabbage salad and a thin garlic sauce and often some spicy red sauce. The meats of gyros and kebab are seasoned in a similar way, but taste slightly different so it's not just the same with another name.

I lived in Berlin for some time, and it really depends on where you get it from.

The doner quality will depend on the place where you buy it. Most places actually buy it from some larger company, and it's sold to them as something akin to a huge sausage.

The best ones I had were the ones where you could actually tell apart the slivers of milk, and had no mystery meat quality to them. They're hard to find, and pricier, but worth it.

I never bothered with the cheap stuff unless I was out drinking with my friends, or something like that.

Sorry anon, it's been too long to remember many specific place.

Mustafa's Gemüse Kebap was extremely hyped. I remember having seen a queue under the god damn rain to buy some fucking doner. Mind you, it's chicken. If you don't like what you see or don't feel like waiting, there's a famous currywust joint just a few meters away, Curry 36.

In my experience, proper sit-down restaurants tend to have a higher quality doner... I was always more of a chicken kebap person, tho. I was really, really trying to remember, but my Berlin life is a blur for some reason.

I tried it 3-4 times when I lived in the Netherlands. It was always made by Turks since there are a fuckton of them there so I'd think it's about the same as the average doner you get in Germany.

It sucked, the meat was like eating a piece of leather. Dry as fuck. Gyros is 10 times better.

The kebab restaurant near me has an amazing spicy kebab roll, last time I ordered it they had just got a fresh patch of jalapenos too and threw some of those in there. The spice was on the level of taking a line of speed and it tasted like a kebab sauce covered hentai succubus having sex with my tongue.

I need to go get one of those tomorrow.
