My stepfamily wonder why their dog "doesn't eat" and adds sardines and leftover meat to his food. They can't comprehend that this is normal behavior. It bums me out because the dog has a great demeanor in general and I think they're going to end up spoiling him.

Is there some kind of gaping hole in peoples knowledge that makes them think fat animals are not more predisposed for disease and illnesses just like in humans?

He did that though. They're his cats, they don't feed themselves, he feeds them. If you make an endless supply of food available to them, they're gonna eat that, you're supposed to portion it out.
