I hopped on the deenz train earlier this year. They have a pretty strong fishy flavor so I wouldn't recommend going for the straight from the can method. Use them as a smaller component of a bigger dish until you get used to the flavor. At least use some hot sauce and maybe some onions with them on a cracker. Straight deenz can be offputting to a virgin mouth.

Canned fish, the stuff you actually want to eat, costs anywhere from $2-$4 depending on where you get it, and what brand.
That's a lot of money to dedicate to a single ingredient in a single meal, even if it is the centerpiece in that meal.
There is something cozy in opening the little square can and chowing down with some crackers, but the mystique that surrounds sardines and the traits people give them (sardines are a dog shit lifting food, basically on par with cheese whiz for macros) are undeserved and basically cringe.
Sardine lovers are on par with IPA fags and cigar ""aficionados"".

You'll probably be fine given what you listed. My pre-sardine seafood experience was pretty much limited to fried salmon and shrimp, and sardines are a couple levels above that. They're fine though, I eat them on crackers now from time to time with a little hot sauce and whatever else is around as a garnish. They're sort of like olives. If you start off eating them straight out of the jar you're gonna think they're nasty, but once you get used to them as a component of a bigger dish you might go back to eating them straight from the jar.

Okay /ck/ just experienced my first can of Deenz, pic related is the brand

I will say starting out, I ate them over club crackers oh, and the one thing I thought it really needed was some extra salt, some extra salt would have turned it from a way to get some extra protein into a really yummy snack, overall it was a little bit Bland but I can see its flavor potential with other ingredients, my usual Seafood snack is also pick related, smoked oysters in oil

Huy Fong, the original sriracha brand, had an issue with sulfite contamination in Finland within the last year that still hasn't been resolved so customs isn't allowing them to import. This happened just months after the rotten bottles exploding on store shelves around the EU, so a lot of people figured there was a blanket ban on imports.
It's just peppers, sugar, and garlic, anyways. Not too hard to make, but a lot of the domestic brands usually aren't as sweet as the original.

I'd get King Oscar sardines in olive oil (still have a lot in my pantry) and eat them for lunch with something. Usually some whole wheat crackers and cheddar and a small pickle. I share them with my dogs.

Currently going through norovirus so everything upsets my stomach and it's shite. Can hardly wait to get back to normal food. Did eat some kippers with very plain pasta tonight and it hasn't really done much to my stomach so I'm hoping it's over soon.

I just tried a little salad with whatever I had around instead of crackers. On a bed of spinach, add the deenz then chopped green onions and grape tomatoes. Salt, pepper, like 2 teaspoons each of sriracha and heinz mayoracha, and a cap of cider vinegar. Mash the deenz up a bit and mix everything together. The vinegar in particular was really nice with the spinach, gonna tweak this.

Hey /deenz/. I started lurking these threads a bit ago, and have asked for some recommendations. I finally bought a can of regular King Oscar. Haven't opened them yet. I have some sourdough bread, some jalapenos, random condiments. Is there anything I should do to prep them? Or just right out of the can. Anyone want a picture to let me know if it's a good can, or are they always consistent in quality?

>>14898814
King Oscar is good but it's like the benchmark for good. There's better brands but King Oscar is easily available at major groceries and hits a good price point. For starters, eat them straight out of the can, bread, and a pickled side. If you need a little more flavor, a few slices of jalapeno would be perfect but hot sauce is acceptable too. You can get creative later once you try sardines straight and know its flavor first.

Try King Oscar's Mediterranean style or the tomato sauce one then add pasta. The one in olive oil with jalapenos are good too. If you want some toppest tier sardines, find Nuri brand (my favorite is spiced sardines in tomato sauce) but they're quite costly, something like $7-8 for a single can.

>> No.14900854

Anchovies are ok but it's used really differently from sardines. Sardines you eat straight but anchovy you use to flavor. Like if you're making a tomato sauce or soup, throw a few anchovies in there to give it depth and complexity

Not true bro. I was hitting the Deenz pretty had a few years back. It was a 2 - 3 can a day habit. Then I got a 4 pack of pregnant Brunswik Deenz and that put me off Deenz for a few months. Back on the horse though. I'm not eating them daily so I don't get sick of them.
Pic related. Having these for lunch on some rye crispbread with aged cheddar and maybe something spicy.

Deenz almost daily with an avocado and a sliced tomato post or pre workout. I used to get the beech cliff ones because they're cheap. I didn't know how good sardines were until I started trying new brands. Now I know spending the extra is worth it.

King Oscar were the first sardines a tried and I have to say these are much more palatable and probably taste 5x better. More salt content but the taste is worth it.
