I’ve only gone fishing and killed insects/rodents, can anyone describe the “gamey” taste? I have a AR pistol that I need to SBR that I bought for home defense so I don’t know if it’s good enough to hunt with and have to take the online classes before getting the license, thanks covid.
How does wild meat taste, what are the best tasting meats and what have your experiences been?

it kinda tastes like shit so really the more it's processed the better
sausage, jerky, put in a chili, mixed with other meats or pig fat, yeah

duck is weird and tastes closer to steak than chicken breast. but i got food poisoning from a big bowl of rice with duck and threw it all up pretty much undigested and that was not a good few days so i dont eat it anymore.

Chewy and bland unless you season the shit out of it

it's chewier than farm raised, and has that kind of mineraly taste that organ meat tends to have. Kind of hard to describe. I'd call it kind of barnyardy, like the smell you get of goats but not exactly like that

What are you planning on hunting?
a short barrel .223 is kinda weak for hunting (around 900 lbs-ft not the 1,340 lbs-ft from a 20" inch), i wouldn't use it for anything bigger then a small east coast deer and that's with a hunting round like a 62g psp, also without a stock you'll have a hard time getting a clean kill shot. In NC we use 30-30 or .30-06, .243 is about as small as i'd go but a 7mm-08 is better and 7mag is great all around. Did you ever consider getting a 18" .300 black out upper (1,400lbs-ft )its almost as strong as a 30-30, or a 6.5 Grendel upper(1,800lbs-ft) the strongest for a ar-15 platform
