If this is your favorite restaurant don't let a dumb inexperienced server ruin the lot. She probably had sections with another server and figured a white lie would be easier than explaining to the other server that she took a table out of her section. When things are busy little things customers do set restaurant people off due to their own stress. Some of us are better at handling it, but some people can let it stick with them even when it's not.

It wasn't busy I said the restaurant was almost empty. And it was the hostess who had a problem not the waiter. He was the only waiter I saw in the whole place too so it's not like me moving would've cost him a tip.

yes. the hostess was tripping and that's poor service. the only logical explanation i can think of was she was defending her tables from other waiters since tables are usually chopped up into sections where each one has their own waiter.
it was probably that she didn't want to have to clean all those tables but thats tough fucking shit for her with a pandemic going on.
