Are there any tricks to save money on steaks? Like im living on minimum wage paycheck to paycheck and it’s very rare I can ever get steak. I want t bones/porterhouse and prime rib not cheap tough steak like chuck and sirloin. I do have a sams club membership (closest Costco/BJ’s is 2 hours away. But man the steaks there are small and in 4 packs for 30 bucks. Am I fucked or what?

Eat less steak but instead more of the ones you want. If you are poor you have to make compromises. What I did was also befriending the local butcher who sells me steaks really cheap or outright gives them away if he isn't legally allowed to sell them anymore.

Most people eat far more meat than they have any reasons to, and Americans eat far too much red meat.
You are the reason steak is so expensive, we sell our beef to you- how dare you complain to us that you can't afford it.

Just buy chuck and curry it, most butchers sell offcuts because they don't know how to do their jobs and this is also perfect for goulash or curry.

Not going to help as much as you want.

Figure out if there's a wholesale butcher that supplies restaurants near you. Ideally they'll be doing their own cutting; bring in packer cuts, trim into steaks.
Figure out if they have a cash and carry store.
Go there and see if you can snag irregular cuts.
Learn to thaw frozen steaks.

T-Bones are premium pricing for bone. Even if you do stick that big bone in your mouth, it's going to come back out.
See if you can get strip steak instead.

If youre on minimum wage you have a few options the way i see it

1)Treat yourself like once a month to a nice steak dinner

2)Buy cheaper steaks like flank or skirt steak

3)Make roasts out of things like chuck instead of making steak that way itll fill your craving for fatty beef

4)If your grocery store has a "on sale" section of their meat cabinet always be on the lookout. They usually put stuff on deep discount that they have to sell or it goes bad. This is what I do for cheap steaks. I find on mondays there's usually house marinated stuff or weird cuts like flat iron for like 40% off.

5)Save up and purchase a 1/2 or 1/4th of a cow once a year. See pic. This is west coast prices, most states have 4$/lb hanging weight which works out to about $6.13 per lb of a take home meat. Of the 100ish lbs 1/4 cow will only work out to about 10 lbs of nice steaks (ribeye, filet) and about 5 lbs each of short rib and cheaper steaks (flank, skirt, etc.) though.

You could also learn to cook shortrib. https://www.seriouseats.com/2012/05/the-best-inexpensive-steak-for-the-grill-part-3.html

Or do what anon suggested above and shove all the meat down your pants at the grocery store.

Go like an hour or so before the store closes, generally the butchers will have closed already and will put out meat close to expiration with a discount sticker on it. Works for fish too. Also after summer holidays, load up on it. I got a bunch of "Family Packs" of Prime T-Bones marked down to about $20 from $55 right after the 4th.
