Copped this today. Was gonna get another ethiopian, but roast date was slightly too old for my liking so i went with this instead. I like it. Next time I'm probably gonna get the other one though.I enjoy coffee with floral, tea like notes. Fruity is good too. Just moved from NYC to Seattle. Still shopping around for a good roaster. I do V60 pourover.

Maybe. I'm sure there are some big wholesale coffee companies in play that we, as consumers, don't know or care about. I personally don't care about whole sellers. I buy coffee based off of tasting notes that i think i will like. Most of the times the descriptors are BS. But once in a blue moon, the printed tasting notes really come out. I just moved to a new city so my go-to isn't available besides shipping and I don't want to pay for shipping/waiting 3-5 days for coffee. Picrel, my old go to coffee. Luh dat shit.

I just buy coffee filters double layer them put the coffee grounds in it then pour hot water over it
Let it steep for 10 minutes then drain it into the cup by lifting it up.
Why don't more people do this?
It's super easy so long as your using a teacup.

Depends on the grinder. Are you using a commercial one in a store or a hand grinder at home? They need different levels of maintenance as some will retain more fines than others.

I've been dialing in this light roast nicaraguan maragogipe and god damn i've not been able to extract the sweetness to balance out the acidity despite going down 8 clicks from my usual v60 grind starting setting. Drawdown is still pretty reasonable so I should go finer but since I only drink a big cup a day it's been 5 days of lowering the grind setting. There's nothing more annoying than getting to half your bag without dialing it in properly.

Probably, I have a brita filter but one of the hardest waters in europe so it probably doesn't do enough. I'm not wasteful enough to buy a bottled water to brew even if it's superior.
>higher temperature
I always brew at 95C, even with medium roasts I only lower it to fiddle once i've dialed it in a bit.
>How acidic are we talking? Does it taste like lemon floor cleaner?
Nah it's not that bad, just not optimal. I like acidity in my coffee but not a sour bland under extracted cup. I guess lightly roasted giant beans are just harder to extract.
>Yeah, 36g of coffee is way too much for a no.2 V60. I'm only starting my draw down now, and it's 4:30 in. Gonna stick to 18g batches from now on.
I go from 15g-30g, usually 20g/333ml, when i'm brewing 30g I usually grind a bit coarser to improve the drawdown and account for the increased thermal mass.

Also, nice digits.

>ground coffee
>something stronger than your average cup, without being Death Wish Coffee strong
>something with low acidity
>good taste without being "chocolate java mint peanut-brittle Christmas flavor"

>ground coffee
Would recommend grinding yourself at home, but if you can't just make sure it's in an air tight container and kept out of sunlight.
>something stronger than your average cup, without being Death Wish Coffee strong
If by strong you mean caffeine content, lighter roasts have more or it than darker roasts. Darker roasts extract easier and taste "stronger" as a result.
>something with low acidity
Dark roasts. If your dark roast is acidic, you have under extracted and need to brew a bit longer.
>good taste without being "chocolate java mint peanut-brittle Christmas flavor"
Stop buying coffee in Winners. Visit your local coffee shop.(Not like Starbucks, Insomnia, Costa, Tim Hortans Etc) Somewhere that roasts their own stuff and ask them what they got for dark or medium-dark. If you ask nicely you might be able try it out before you buy it.

Other than that, what are you brewing at home? Just regular drip?

My wife got us a Cuisinart coffee maker, regular drip as far as I know.

I appreciate the advice. I guess I should have been more specific, and please don't do the shit people always do in specialty threads and go "if you're gonna do that just fucking go to McDonald's" or whatever similar analogy, I'm trying to get in to coffee, not start a new hobby. If I find a few that I love, down the road I wouldn't mind. Right now I'm at beginner stage. So, more specifically:

I'm looking for coffee grounds that are easy to buy (like Amazon), have a decent mount of caffeine without being meme-levels, a good flavor (probably not your standards, look at it from my POV drinking Folgers) that isn't just comprised of additives and artificial flavors, and something that will work well with the before-mentioned coffee maker.

I understand I'm asking to have my hand held, but with all the enthusiasts here I figured there would be a couple recommendations for a ground coffee that is strong with a naturally decent flavor.

>coffee grounds that are easy to buy
starbucks or any other grocery store brand that comes in a bag (not some kind of bucket) and doesn't have any natural/artificial flavors added will be a big upgrade over folgers, I prefer their blonde roasts.
if you want more caffeine use more coffee grounds or drink more coffee. your other option is to use robusta beans, which have more caffeine but most people think they taste worse than arabica. people will argue over dark vs light roast caffeine content, but I haven't see any actual data on the subject.
for your coffee maker, make sure to use quality water and don't leave the carafe on the hot plate. then it's just a matter of adjusting the coffee and water ratio to your taste.

The first step to having better coffee is knowing that you aren't having the best to begin with. Crack out a scales and start weighing your coffee and water. After that, ensure that you have adequate storage for your coffee. Air tight container out of sunlight. Mr Coffee makes a pour over setup as far as I'm aware if you ever wanted to get frisky.

I dont drink coffee often and when I do it's stuff that my mum makes with tetly teabags(I think it was orange pekoe), nestle instant coffee, a lotta milk(the evaporated no name with the cow on it) and sugar for me.
I'm litteral baby, but it tastes good when warm or cold and that's all I want since I cant drink hot drinks without getting fucked for the rest of the week.
But today I tried workplace coffee since it was my duty today, boiled the water in an electric kettle, put the coffee in the machine with single filter, let it happen, added 2 sugar to mine, some 1%milk from the fridge, some French vanilla cream also from the fridge, and then i tasted mine.
That shit was awful, it tasted like water with a third of a coffee crisp dunked in it.
Now im not sure if i fucked up, or the workplace shit is bad, the old timers here won't really give a crap, but its a slight brand of shame not being able to make a decent instant coffee.
How do i make it gooder for my own pride and future experiences?

You have a way you like coffee, there's nothing wrong with that. That doesn't mean it's good coffee.
Loblaws coffee ain't great for starters, adding vanilla cream, sugar and milk is going to fuck with whatever you put it in. Way too much sweetness going on inside that cup.
What you could try out, is the next time you brew it up, leave yours to cool a bit, because of what you said about hot drinks. Then give it a taste. Identify what in your mind is wrong with it the same way you would whilst cooking. Too bitter? Ok, what will milk do to fix that that sugar won't? And vice versa.

Do you ever have drip coffee or milk and espresso drinks from a cafe? If it's too hot you can always ask for it to be cooler.

inverted just prevents any dripping before you press. that initial drip doesn't taste great. I stopped brewing inverted after finding out the hard way that the plunger wears out over time.
so it's more of a usability improvement for me. I use this technique and now I don't have to mess around with the plunger to stop the dripping.

are you a neet? you seem awfully sensitive about something that is pretty inexpensive.
I will keep talking about using the aeropress to make tasty coffee in the coffee thread. you will keep seething about it whenever someone brings it up.
anyway the aeropress involves recipes/skills/techniques as well, that's why there are competitions for it and various recipes in widespread use. so you are just wrong again. but I'm sure you already knew that.
bean quality is more important than the choice of brew method, as long as the user knows what they are doing.

NOOOOOOOOOOO you need a $500 kettle to make pourover because I said so!!!! That's why my Aeropress™ is so much better because I can just microwave water in a cup and pour it in! No skill required and I can have a perfectly mediocre cup! But also it actually does require skill because people use it in competitions!!!

Interesting, ground a bit coarser because the coffee is a tad darker and heated my water to 90c. Finished my second pour at 1:55 and drew down finished at 3:30. Bit muddy and unclear, under extraction has happened. Will grind finer next time, but this was more to observe temperature loss. Final brew temp after decanting was 61c.
