Purge your fridge on a schedule. Get in there every 3 days and inspect the produce and pitch things a bit dehydrated or soft, prior to mold. If you have a moldy lemon, you can safely wash the rest of the bag in warm soapy water. It's fine. Sometimes it's better to
I would wash out your produce drawers in the sink occasionally, again, hot soapy water, dry thoroughy. Prolly no need for actual bleach. My mom taught me to line drawers with paper towels and I think they do help. Really the quality of your fridge helps, as well as the produce and conditions where you buy it.

I love the pyrex-snapware, and the tupperware, and other produce keepers for the wavy bottoms and venting. They do help with certain veggies and fruits.

Washing lemons can make them mold faster, especially if you dont dry them properly. If using a bowl, the lemon at the bottom molds first because of moisture (and darkness) so use a colander or wire basket to hold them and promote air flow, and dry them fervently after washing.

Overly paranoid behavior. People have been dealing with mold as long as humans have existed, and there’s even evidence cavemen were using mold as a proto-antibiotic and a way to preserve food (cheese and sourdough, duh).
Hard foods (potatoes, cheese, etc) can easily have the moldy part removed with about half an inch extra to get rid of the roots. Most people say an inch or two but this is for literal babies and old people with severely debilitating health conditions. Soft foods can be thrown out, and then just wash the rest of them and dry them thoroughly to remove any traces of spores.
If you keep things organized well enough, clearing out the mold takes literally seconds. Some types of mold are even edible, although it’s a little ballsy to just eat some moldy food.

It's on and inside everything, life purges it's existence to stay alive but as soon as you die it gets the chance to bloom

the fuzz you're seeing is the end of it's life cycle, when it puts out more spores

typically most food is already dead so you don't want the spores to get on baked goods that have dead spores but like it's in the air and stuff

>> No.14755747

that's a fungus rather than a mold, we don't typically eat as many molds as we do fungi

How quickly/far can mold spores spread? One of my roommates has a bag of lemons that's been sitting on the counter for weeks, and one of the lemons in the bag is now completely black and covered in white mold. Two days ago I bought some peaches, and left them on the other end of the counter, maybe 10 ft away, and today they were covered in white mold. Could it be because of the moldy lemon? How else can I stop peaches from molding?
