growed mealworm at home once. Supposed to be a cheap source of protein.

Nice if you want o eat only once but I dont believe it is feasible to stop buyibg meat and live on mealworm. Even though they are high in protein they are also high in keratin so you end up consuming toooo much fiber. Also they have a strong peanut-like taste that is difficult to hide and after some days you wont be able to swallow them.
