Maybe a chunk of fish if it doesn't look scary. Scoop of some goopy looking chicken or pork dish. Broccoli and beef. Cold peel and eat shrimp. Crab legs if they aren't picked over.

Here in the Midwest I'd put the buffets into two categories:
1. Cheapest, stick to the basic dishes
2. More expensive, offers more American dishes and essentially tries to be a golden corral

In the town next to me they had a buffet which was #2, but it was fantastic and always packed. The American dishes tasted good or better than what you would find at an American place. But they were probably exceptional.

Also, crawdad's are pretty common in several Asian cuisines, so that's not really unusual in terms of prep, more so price.

I'm not sure if American ones differ but as a leaf, there was this one Chinese buffet in my area that was frequented by Chinese locals, the food was fucking amazing and all the different types of food were presented nicely in a well designed kitchen layout, shit made me feel like a kid on christmas. Place was very spacious too and you would never feel cramped, like some other buffets I've been to. I guess this wasn't very profitable in the long run, as this place shut down like 10 years ago. The buffets in high end hotels in Asia give me the same feeling so I guess I can still relive that joy if I ever travel to Asia again.

In Germany buffets are allowed (or operated illegally) but you need to put on your mask whenever you leave your table to get the food. You also need to write down your contact info whenever you frequent a business (except supermarkets). Overall it seems to be worse than most countries but not as bad as the US. At least people are allowed to work for the most part.
