Of the gins I've bought, Giniversity (Australian) has been the best. But as a rule I only buy on sale and they have never been on sale since I've tasted it.
In general barrel aged gins have been a big hit for me. I have yet to come across one I didn't like.

None of the gins you've mentioned are available here though, except the Bombay and other Edinburghs (my notes state that there was a Christmas gin I liked, but it was long ago).

I'm trying to adjust to barrel aged gins. I haven't hated any of them but I haven't enjoyed them either. For me, they all seem to fall in a weird middle ground of gin and whisky/tequila and there's this mismatch of expectations that I need to get over.

We only get a few Edinburghs stateside and they're all hard to find. I've never seen their Christmas gin but the description sounds wonderful. I've had good luck taking cheap gin and mixing in mulling spices during the holidays.

Yeah, sadly that would count. Some gins do taste like pre-made cocktails and they're generally shit. Pink gins are atrocious fruity weird things. However, Barr Hill is an excellent gin that tastes like a cocktail (90 proof though) since they make it with raw honey and lemon zest. There are some great lemon based gins too that have bright citrus notes without the sugar and bitterness of lemonade.

The better gins play with citrus, heat, spices, herbs, florals, barrel aging, different neutral grain bases, teas, etc... I avoid any gins that add sweet fruits though, personal preference.

Truth. Amber ales, and to a similar albeit lesser extent, brown ales, have to be the least interesting and most homogenous beer styles there are. They're generally low ABV but too malty/sweet to be sessionable. Never understood why Fat Tire was such a big deal, it's worse and less satisfying than most macro lagers, although I do tend to like macro lagers. I can see that. Hendricks and The Botanist are smooth but their flavors are subtle and complex. Tanqueray and Bombay are less complex but punchier and harsher. Ardbeg has some of the strongest flavors in all the spirit world so I don't know if you'll find a gin on that level. Few scotch are on that level.

If you want something that leans towards whiskey flavors I would recommend anything barrel aged. Barr Hill Tom Cat is amazing and made with raw honey and aged in oak barrels. Big Gin has a few excellent barrel aged versions.

If you want unique approaches: St. George has incredible range, their Terroir tastes like you swallowed a forest, their Dry Rye gin is made from 100% rye, and their Dry Rye Reposado takes the Dry Rye and ages it in wine barrels. Edinburgh's Cannonball lives up to it's name at navy strength (115 proof) made with szechuan peppers and lemon zest. Wood's Mountain Hopped gin uses cascade hops for bright unique flavors (think IPA notes with zero bitterness).

We had a night where a ~50 top came in & I was expected to make drinks for all of them. was pretty easy, first 25 all beer and wine and basic cocktails I knew with my eyes closed. Some guy ordered a 'stinger, up' and it fucked up my entire flow. Had to google it and spend 10 minutes searching our bar for non-standard bottles we rarely use.
