Shengs will lose most of the harshness within two years in most cases, shous will lose almost all fishyness with 1-2. A good rule of thumb is at least one year, two if the price jump isn't great. Any more than that you won't get heavy astringency or fishyness but you will start being overcharged for it since we are in a big bubble. 2012 should be great, if you can afford it.

Depends on what you want exactly. If you want an enameled cast iron kettle look on eBay for clearance ones from teavanna. They are made by a good Japanese company (collective?) iwashu and somehow end up cheap vs buying iwashu branded stuff.
If you want a traditional Japanese styled teapot look at the ones that Are being sold by the Japanese shops in the pastebin, look around on other websites. Amazon has a few okay pieces if you are willing to do some digging, oriental shops usually don't have anything exciting unless you are lucky.

There really are different clays with different mineral content, and different firing techniques that will effect how a clay pot will influence your tea. It's just a really insane rabbit hole to go down. There is a very strong market in chinq for pots made of specific clays from specific deposits that get expensive very quickly. The stuff on the Chinese Domestic market made with the really desirable clays starts in the $500 range and just goes up from there. There is also a huge market for antique pots made in the old state factories in the 80s and 90s. It's all just so inscrutable to a westerner and very little information is available in English.

being tired with the usual tea and life in general I decided to open one of the tea samples/gifts that I received with my latest orders
this first one is a light-ish shade of amber going a bit towards yellow-ish orange, the still-hot leaves have a distinct smell of tobacco and maybe a bit of legumes and look like mid-sized tie guan yin leaves, though the edges are a bit mroe jagged
the liquor has a clear rice smell, the kind you smell when you steam basmati or other aromatic rice, the taste is unremarkable, burnt greens and that's it, not particularly sapid, salty or sweet, and the aftertaste is a somewhat sapid, cooked greens taste
the sample was in the form of a small cake and from the looks of everything I'd say it's a relatively young raw pu-erh, it's not that good but the smell of rice is very nice, can you guys think of/recommend some teas that smell like rice?

Cheap weird tea like that is fine in moderation, no guarantee that it will taste any good.
>Are they really good?
I have ordered from them a few times and been happy with the results. Their prices are pretty good and I don't think they are selling fake stuff. They have a few of those "laobanzang" puer cakes that cost $12 or whatever that are obviously nit really laobanzang but they otherwise seem fine.
If you want some puer grab one of those xiaguan 2011 bulang cakes or the jingmai one, those are both a great deal. Those cheap 2007 menku cakes probably aren't fantastic just based on how cheap they are but they are probably serviceable. Also check out the the tulin cakes and tuos from around 2009 probably some good stuff in there.

So of the 2009 xiaguan cakes I bought a while ago the silver pine and crane is my favorite, it's basically just a number recipe cake with nicer materials and it has some fruityness that the more standard cakes don't have.
The 2009 FT 8652 is okay, very standard with smoke and resinous pine flavor.
The 2014 golden legend is also pretty good, it has some deep bitterness in there somewhere, also smoke and mellow aged flavor. It also has some powerful energy, makes you sweat and has some tea drunk effects, a little rough on an empty stomach.
Overall i like all of them, not sure if I would rebuy any of them, i would get the silver pine and crane if i could buy it for $40 a cake but it cost nearly twice that.

i use one of these as a cup to drink regular water, my whole life i have had to drink excessive water to stay hydrated, i can drink a full one in 15 seconds. normal cups do not satisfy me. my thirst is unquenchable, the t2 cha hai is the one thing that has given me value in life

The brew basket is for looseleaf tea, you should eventually try to get into looseleaf if only because it's more affordable to buy fancy tea looseleaf than to get it in bags

What-cha has a scented Jin Xuan sticky rice oolong that has a very pleasant rice aroma and a mellow flavor. It's a tea I like drinking when I'm feeling cozy.

go to yunnansourcing and buy some samplers and figure out what you like. go from there and enjoy brother. you will drink them gong fu style. 5g of tea per 100ml of water, very short steeps. all you need is a gaiwan or a -200ml teapot for gong fu.

Why would you suggest that someone used to tea bags use a gaiwan aon? YS samplers are solid but they can just use a normal teapot.

>>14676911
I wish, but unless things change with rona I won't have anyone to celebrate with. Mooncakes are gross anyway.

I make my tea in a 2 quart saucepan. I hammered the bottom of it a bit because it warped (it's pretty cheap guess it has a tough time with the coil on high), now the lid won't fit. Without the lid it takes a bit longer to get the water to boil, any advice?

What is the most powerful tea you have tried? I want to get my hands on some more teas with powerful energy, not just super jittery factory teas but ones that make you sweat and are either powerfully entergetic or relaxing and stoning.
The two strongest teas i have right now in that regard are the 2011 xiaguan golden legend, it instantly makes you feel heat across your body and has a pretty powerful energy.
The other good one i have currently is 2014 (2018) Three Cranes Brand “Ye Yun Gu Shu” Liubao Brick this one isn't as warming and has a bit more edgyness to the energy but it's still got some real power to it.
