Ok steel reserve was recommended to me by /ack/ but what's the difference between the silver can and black can? This one is called triple export 211 and the other is just steel reserve 211

>> No.14624857

It depends on where you live honestly sometimes steel reserve is only 6% and sometimes it's 8%. That black labeled stuff tastes even more monkey tier then Schlitz malt liquor bull, or OE800

>> No.14624859

Why do people drink shit like this instead of just getting a bottle of vodka or something? Surely it isn't better value

There is no such thing as a hangover proof alcoholic drink. Maybe if you're pretty young and you get drunk all the time it won't feel that bad, but it's still a hangover. And it gets much worse the older you get.

For me, it's Steel Reserve. A six pack of Steel Reserve tall boys for $5 vs a fifth of Sobieski vodka for $12. Guess which one give you more alcohol for your buck? It's the Steel Reserve, plus the carbonation gets you drunker quicker. What you know about that?

just do a handle of something like Aristocrat for the same price. Maybe somewhere weird like Utah might be different, but I've lived in both controlled and privatized states, and liquor is always a cheaper drunk than beer or wine.
>>14624859
I worked ER night shift for a while, so obviously I drank myself to sleep. I usually had to buy high gravity beers and shit because I was living in a control state and could only buy liquor from like 10a-8p, so I'd have to really go out of my way to get liquor, so I'd usually just grab a few malt liquors on my way home from work.

>> No.14626476

Ok serious question

I can get a 1.75L of bottom shelf bourbon for $14 at a local shop. I spend $1 on a 1.25L of pepsi from a dollar store next door and I make mixed drinks (because I have ulcers and mixed treats me better)

Is it cheaper to buy malt liquor? I always get confused by the alc/vol. Bourbon is 40 alc/vol, most of the malt liquor I see is like 6-10% alc/vol. So I'd have to drink an entire tall boy to get buzzed? Sounds like I'd get bloated as fuck and feel miserable compared to just taking drinks of mixed bourbon.

I'm 6'4" and about 170lbs so I need a decent amount of any alcohol to feel it.
Only asking because I have to live on a tighter budget for a couple months and I can't do it sober.

the Russian Standard people should pay me for always saying this but if you drink enough water the shit won't get you hung over. I've drunk enough to have vodka smelling shit the next morning but still no hangover

>> No.14626531

>>14626476
It's definitely cheaper to get bottom shelf 40%. Here's some quick math. in order to get 10%, you use 1:4 liquor to mixer. Handle is about 60oz. Tall boys are 24oz?, so you'll use 5oz of liquor and 20oz of mixer meaning you'll get 30 drinks out of a handle roughly equivalent to malt.

>> No.14626605

the Black label costs more to make, the silver sells better because the brand is already established. I don't understand why you can't figure that out.

You sure about that? It's not like they put the volume and abv on the containers or nothing. It's not like anybody could prove anything with hard numbers.

vol. * (ABV/100)/price
1750 * (.40/100)/15 = .466
2839 * (.081/100)/5 = .459

It's so close a few cents difference in how much alcohol you're getting on the dollar that it doesn't matter. Just drink what you prefer. You'd be splitting pennies if you fret over this but don't think you're saving so much money by buying a bottom shelf handle when you're not.

What's you SR based off of? 16oz 6 packs, which I've never seen them packaged. I think the cheapest is about $2.75 for 42oz bottles. Do you math for that because I'm fucking drunk now and don't care to math.

16oz 6 packs right.

42oz SR
1242 * (.081/100)/2.75 = .365
That's expensive for SR.

If SR costs you this much then a handle of liquor is more cost effective if you can get it for $19 or less.

Of those, I've had Pilsner Urquell, Hacker Pschorr but don't remember what kind, and that Chimay on the right.

If you're going by what tastes most like bread. Steel Reserve is better. It tastes more like liquid bread than any of those that I've had in your picture. Steel Reserve has a very thick, bready mouthfeel and the taste is bread and corn malt and bit of malted barley, with little hop bitterness and some toasted grains on the finish. The taste is heavy.

I don't know why you're going to trash Steel Reverse when you haven't even drank it. It's very good. There's nothing wrong with it and you're just being pretentious.

Why the fuck not? Sugar is converted into alcohol, so higher ABV shit should have less unconverted sugar. Steel is sweet because they add sugar to it.

>>14627820
More sugars are needed in the brewing process to achieve high ABV. They're not actually adding granulated sugar. You understand that malt is sweet, right?

I'm not sure what SR uses in the brewing process but it's probably barley malt, corn malt, and corn syrup.

Malt is just a grain, it's not appreciably sweeter than any other cereal grain. They may be adding more sugar that could possibly be used up just to ensure it's there, but on a consumer end, it's noticeably sweeter than anything that isn't flavored.
