Spam is the quintessential Chef food. If you can make a meal out if, you can make a meal out of anything. Yes, even the juice that forms at the bottom of the garbage sack after two days of REAL cooking. If you don't love spam and turn it into an actual meal then you don't deserve to browse this board, no the internet.

Remember, tastelets will HATE this truth. Only true master race culinary artists can turn this into a 6/5 star meal. Ever wonder how Gorden got famous in the first place?

Spam. Then he gave up on the true food of the poor/common/rich man. Have you seen him cook that grilled cheese? He probably buttchugs soylent now with how he cooks now.

>mfw that Anglo forgot his roots.

TL:DR - Spam is the past/present/future and only those with true skills and high T can use it. I'll fight anyone on it.

It's something that should always be in the pantry for one of those nights when nothing really sounds good. Spam 'n eggs is fine but my favorite is to slice the loaf in half. I then take the half and slice it into 4 pieces and fry them in a skillet until browned. I then throw some sliced onion into the skillet and quickly saute them until softened. Take shitty white bread, place 2 slices of spam, slice of chz of your choice, two more slices of spam, another slice of chz, onions on top of that, lots of mustard on top. Absolutely delicious.

>> No.14599294

>>14598818
It's tasty but too expensive compared to actual meat.
A nice treat once in a while though.
Great for outdoors shit, long term storage, emergencies etc. I always take a can in multi day camping trips so I still have fresh meat on the last day and I always keep a can in my car's emergency kit in case I break down somewhere remote and have to camp on the side of the highway.
Other than that, not worth $6 a can when you can get 2kg in of sausages or smoked chicken for the same price.

If you go properly into the outback and your vehicle breaks down it's not uncommon to have to camp on the side of the road for a day or two until another car comes to help.

SPAM around here is around $4/lb.
Bacon and 80/20 ground beef are under $3/lb.
Whole chickens are around $1/lb; chicken parts like drumsticks are around $1.30/lb.

Sure, SPAM is a bargain compared to prime grade ribeye or strip steak, but it's expensive compared to a lot of refrigerated meat.

I grew up in a pretty affluent area, but some of my friends were from the more lower-middle class area of town.

I had a friend who was 1 of 5 siblings, and his mom made spam and cheese sandwiches on toast for dinner. I was super intrigued by this; I'd never even heard of Spam. I had a bite and fell in love. Granted, I do have a thing for salty food.

Had a similar experience with Vienna sausages. Funny how we want what we don't have.

Even at $2/can that's $2.67/lb
That's more than any cut of chicken and most cuts of pork, which makes it a pretty easy choice. You're paying for the shelf stability, but still you can get fresh pork cheap enough that smoking/curing/canning it yourself is worth it and you'll get a higher quality product in the end.

Fucking love spam. I didn't want for much growinh up but my parents both grew up dirt poor and my dad would always eat spam and I thought it was disgusting. A year ago I bought some on a whim and now I think it's delicious. Fried spam, egg, and cheese sandwich. Spam fried rice, cold cubed spam on crackers with mustard, scooping it out of the can when you're drunk, it's all good. Salty as fuck but who cares, definitely too pricey compared to just getting fresh chicken or ground beef though so I try to only bust open a can once or twice a month.
