I am currently growing carolina reaper chilis, which are almost ripe. What do with them? You guys got any recipes?

Honestly, I like them best soaked in white vinegar for an hour or so, and then just eat them as they are.

Dry them, grind them into a dust and apply to food as a seasoning.

what i would do is fry them in oil with onion and garlic
they lose a lot of the heat when you do this and become something you can eat or use as a topping without too much discomfort

Treat them like a habanero... only use 1/3 - 1/2. Or go nuts. They work well with piri's, anchos and chilacas.

>>14598404
they work really well in chili - anything where you can let the flavour work, and there's enough volume to soak up the heat.

They make for a great hand sanitizer.

Do they actually have a flavor or are they just "DUDE SO SPICY XD"?

I’d think the capsaicin would overpower any flavor it may have to the point of it being irrelevant. However, they say its fruity-sweet.

OP here,

thanks for the suggestions. I‘ve also thought of making chili oil out of them to use in other dishes.

This.
Regular beef stew with one or two reapers is the tits. Perfect heat level where you can still taste the other flavours, but a nice deep and rich chilli taste compared to other less hot chillis.

Eat it and develop a tolerance. Just ate a (very small) 7Pot Primo Peach a few minutes ago.

Tomorrow I'll start my first chili fermentation for this year

Cut the top off one and put it in chili or other dishes you want some heat in. Taste often and take it out of the pot when the dish reaches your level of heat.

they absolutely have flavor, kind of what you said but also smokey like a chipotle. personally I prefer the flavor of ghost pepper, it's fruity-sweet and kind of a mix of bell pepper and cherry flavor. and yeah hot as fuck but work your way up and you can discern all types of flavors people here are claiming don't exist

got them at a basic garden supply/sneed store. there will always be mutations because most of these things are new and there are going to be pods that come out looking weird regardless
every pod looked like this as it came in, but you could expect some looking completely unlike this

I'm going to try this. I've heard you just need to reduce the water a bit and they should be mostly OK despite possibly going a bit dormant.

threadly reminder that Ed Currie is a hack who doesn't know how peppers work. he constantly lies about the origins of the Carolina Reaper (he seriously has like three different explanations). It's most likely a 7 Pot Primo that was taken before the strain was finished. his "pepper x" is also likely a Big Mustard Mama.
