Aright /ck/
do you own a garlic press?
and do you ever use it if so?

>> No.14590235

OMG YES YES YES

>> No.14590237

no because it crushes the cell walls of the garlic producing allicin which is pungent and ruins garlic whereas if you knife mince it you'll get a smoother sweet aromatic taste

>> No.14590240

>>14590227
I do and I use it whenever I don't wanna get my cutting board dirty. For example when I make a quick sauce out of sour cream, mayo and garlic

>> No.14590246

>>14590227
Yes, for garlic butter and marinades

Is there another way to use garlic?

Yeah a zyliss and I always use it otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. It even comes complete with a handy dandy cleaning implement that fits right into the handle. Use the cleaning thing under some running water and it's new as fresh driven snow.

>> No.14590277

>>14590260
You can also mince it using your knife

Use garlic to stave off vampires.

>> No.14590295

I used one when I lived with my parents out of convenience but I don't see the point of one when I have perfectly decent knives at home; plus a mortar and pestle if I prefer it to be really crushed.

>> No.14590370

>>14590227
i've got one but i don't use it. i prefer the salt and scrape method.

Yeah, I love garlic and use it almost every day

>> No.14591332

>>14590227
I've got one. Almost never use it. I have one of the shitty bottles of semi fermented minced garlic for quick meals and thinly slice it when I want to make something nice.

"No."

i hate pseuds like this: "presses ruin the taste of garlic!". ok but i always use a garlic press and the taste is never ruined.
"food science" is a fucking joke. remember when babish "reviewed" people making burgers and he said that
>you shouldn't season the meat before forming the patties, it ruins the texture
>ok the texture is fine this time but don't do this!!
>i read that it's bad!!!

All the few I had keep breaking at the hinge. I need a good one.

Anon, if I'm not prepping a single other thing, I might use it right into the pot. Pop in the cloves, unpeeled, and press right into a recipe.

>pseudoscience
you mean science

https://www.seriouseats.com/2015/01/how-to-mince-chop-garlic-microplane-vs-garlic-press.html

hell allicin isn't -bad- but it's just not what you should default to wanting when you cook with garlic

>> No.14594203

>Do you own one
Yes
>Do you use it
No. If I'm going through the trouble of shelling fresh cloves anyway I'll already be using my knife, so it's kind of pointless.

>> No.14594209

I get fresh garlic every week from my farm share and always use my press. It's a necessity for me

>> No.14594223

I just dump in a shit ton of garlic powder. Beats any faggoty ass "garlic press" lmao can you fucking imagine

>> No.14594435

>>14590227
no if i want super minced like that i'll just use a microplane grater. FAR easier to clean and i think it keeps that garlicy funk like this guy said >>14590237 but i don't really have any proof

>> No.14594475

>>14594052
cool stuff bro. still gonna use a press, still voting trump

>> No.14594757

>>14594475
ok?

>> No.14594780

>>14590227
I used to own a really nice one. Then my sister stole it. Now I just buy garlic minced in jars. The fresh stuff is stupidly expensive and the stuff that isn't is garbage chinese import.

if you use pressed garlic with lemon, salt, pepper and olive oil, spread it over steamed spinache, and then put that on a fresh pizza with ham and parmegiano you will cum
