Things like empanadas or spring rolls. Also, thoughts on beef quesadillas?

I made supermarket pre-ground beef borgars before, it didnt seem too bad to me
i just added caramelized onion, processed cheese and pickle with a mayo+ketchup sauce so maybe that drowned out the cheap meat flavor

it did get the approval of my grandparents tho

I honestly don't like ground beef that much so probably like meat sauce. Even then I'd rather use Ground Chicken/Turkey as it's cheaper, tastier, and healthier

I am a sucker for Hamburger Helper however, it's too bad it's fucking disgusting for you.

If you go to a decent grocery store the butcher department usually grinds their own beef in house from the scraps off the chops for primal racks of meat so its odds and ends of prime rib and sirloin and tender loin etc. The chuck scraps get chopped into cubes for stew meat typically. My grocery store ground beef makes fantastic burgers.

Sometimes when I'm lazy I'll make a bachelor chow out of 1 lbs of ground beef that's been seasoned, browned and drained, then cooked with some diced tomatoes, onions, peppers, corn, salsa, whatever I have on hand, then serve it up with some rice and tortilla chips. Makes a cheap, easy, one-pot meal that's tasty and nutritious when you don't feel like doing serious cooking.

It's fine, just go with the freshly ground stuff at the butcher cabinet if you can. The meat in the tube is ok, but noticeably inferior.

Taco meat. Especially if it's just for yourself. 1lb of ground beef can go for a few meals. Do tacos when you cook them. Put the rest in the fridge. Next meal, preheat your oven, and toss some chips, cheese and your meat on a oven safe plate and boom, nachos. Next day, take some queso and mix in the rest of the meat and you've got a snack for the rest of the chips. Yeah, it's all the same 5 things like Taco Bell, but it feels different enough to not get tiring.

>brown beef while breaking it up in the pan
>remove beef from pan
>add garlic/ginger/mushrooms and cook until soft
>add beef back to pan
>add beef stock just to barely cover, soy sauce, black pepper, clove
>simmer 20-30 minutes
>add a small amount of vinegar
>thicken with some kind of starch or flour

Don't know if there's a name for it but I really like this. Also even though the meat is ground it actually has a better texture after a short simmer. And I never drain the fat, it tastes good if you pour it over rice, potatoes, bread, etc.

If you have a nearby butcher shop, usually their ground beef comes out better than some stores. Then again some supermarkets grind on the premesis with good steak cuts/trimmings, so you've got to test out some places.

Make a good simple tomato sauce (28oz can of crushed tomatoes, chopped small onion 4-5 cloves garlic, salt and pepper, oregano and basil) and then brown a pound of ground beef in a pan, boil some spaghetti noodles, and bake some garlic bread. Add in a salad and you've got a good and simple family meal for the evening.

I just use plain distilled vinegar since it's what I usually have. Malt vinegar might be good too, but any of them should work if you like them. A little prepared mustard that has vinegar in it could work too.

Never thought there'd be so many people who don't just use grocery store ground beef to make burgers. I always just use that. My local deli closed up shop like 5-6 years ago so that's (grocery store) all I even have in my area now anyways.

I make my own version of bachelor chow, usually.
>ground beef
>at least two white onions
>do not drain the fat
>heavily seasoned, usually with taco seasoning
>make up a box or two of store-brand mac and cheese, ideally the "cheese sauce" kind that don't need milk
>stir in just a bit of milk to thin it out
>stir the beef into the mac
>top with scallions if you've got the dosh

With dishes where you simmer the meat a bunch, it's not as noticable, but for short sears, you want the best possble meat.

You don't want the 80/20 stuff you use for chili and shit, you want the 70/30 for the higher fat content.

You can also just grab a fatty cut of steak and ask the butcher department to grind it for you. Most of them do, maybe not some lower class places like Shop Rite though.
